Defiance 2050 blasts its way into closed beta this weekend

Defiance 2050’s closed beta – for PC, anyway, since the console version’s beta testing has been delayed – is set to launch here not long after this post hits the front page of the site.

“Let the fight begin Ark Hunters! Closed Beta is finally here and we’re excited for players to experience the brand new class system and weapon enhancement systems in Defiance 2050. The PC Closed Beta event starts Friday (4/20) at 10:00 AM Pacific Time and extends all through Sunday to end on Monday (4/23) at 10:00 AM Pacific Time.”

Reboot participants this weekend will be testing the Mt. Tam and Madera story mission areas, the Liberate the Lost co-op instance, the Assault class, the new class system and tree, and the new itemization system. What won’t you see? The rest of the planned classes, PvP, achievements, and the cash shop. Oh yeah, and for your trouble, you’re getting a sweet “Beta Blazer” title. Sound off if you’re giving it a go!

More like Defiance 1995.

Arg I thought this was actually a new game, not a re-launch of the exact game that already exists… I was super psyched, now I’m just bummed. “It worked for The Secret World!” they’re telling themselves… Except Defiance already did it’s Free to Play makeover.

So it’s a bit prettier with a little tinkering with skill spending. Otherwise it’s normal Defiance through and through. I don’t know why I thought this was going to be a newly made game. I guess they didn’t really say either way and many of us just assumed it was something new.

When The Secret World did this, not only was it the first foray into Free to Play, but also there was nothing new to buy. If Trion tries to make the old time Defiance players have to buy the DLC we already spent on again (which it sounds like they are), I’m just not touching it with a 3,000 mile pole.

I really liked Defiance for sure. But I’m not going to re-buy everything I already bought because they want to make some tiny changes and launch it as a new game. That’s just not happening.

Being that they make most of their money off getting people to draw random loot boxes, I hope they’re smart enough not to tell people they have to buy all the DLC again. Yet DLC hasn’t been mentioned as something that’s being carried over, so we’ll just have to see.

I would have spent a crazy amount of money on a new Defiance game. My bank account would have been hurting. But not on a re-do of the existing game. No. Not everybody gets to pull this stuff.

I was so excited for a new Defiance game… I finished my 19 gig download (thinking it was a bit small for a new game but I figured we were only getting a bit of it for the beta), got all ready for a long evening of beta testing, logged in and was greeted with the same exact stuff you see in normal Defiance. My heart sank. I went in the game a bit to make absolutely sure it was just the same thing but saw that it was, so I didn’t spend much time playing.

I was all ready to get started in a new Defiance experience. I just can’t state enough how disappointed I am.

Yup, people who bought loads of vehicles, outfits and DLC in the original game are going to be expected to start the exact same game with a new name and simplified class system with nothing? That’s plain stupid.

Tried it. It’s exactly the same game, same content, same awful console UI, just about everything except a class rework is identical to the old game. The lighting might be a little better but otherwise the graphics look the same. It’s certainly not a remaster, not even a reboot. It’s a relatively small update.

So, Defiance with classes instead of a better open-ended talent tree.

Got it. Why do people keep relaunching these damn games instead of just reworking their damn systems?

Trion, “Hey, we resold Rift to the same people who bought into it years ago, and it worked… lets do the same thing with Defiance!”

So tired of all these older games taking the lead in spots where newer, more innovative and more advanced games SHOULD be.

When they said re-imagined I thought it might be a lot different but the starting area at the very least is pretty much identical. Kind of disappointing.

ah man…. this is what I was worried about.

This is turning out to be more of a graphic engine update with skill tweaks, than a re-imagined game.

Kinda silly. Why not just say that. Telling me you pumped up the graphics on an old game that wasn’t pretty to begin with is a surefire way yo get my interest.

It’s the same game but made prettier. Better lighting, but not seeing much improvement in the textures, models or animations.

I hope they don’t expect to charge separately for this.

Only managed to play the tutorial before lost connection to server. But the only difference I could tell up to that point compared to the original was marginally better graphics on the characters.

Same story, same tutorial, same controls… I guess the changes will become more obvious once I get further in.

Will I be able to play this one without motions sickness? Will things not just be giant bullrt sponges? Will i actually find myself in ark falls digging around for treasure like on the show?

I forgot how limiting this games character creation is.
