Elder Scrolls Online gives away free crown crates and subscription time

Ooh, you really like that word “free,” don’t you? Caught your attention, and now you’re down here in the body of the article, wondering how you can Get Yours? Well, far be it from us to get in your way; we are facilitators in such situations.

It is true, Elder Scrolls Online is preparing to run a bonus event from April 24th through the 30th. During this period, players will earn one free crown crate every day just by logging in to the game. If you’re faithful to do this for the full run, that nets you six free crates (which may hold cosmetics, boosters, mounts, and skins).

In addition, ZeniMax is offering a free week trial of ESO Plus to see if you like the benefits that a subscription brings to the table (although it should be noted that trial users will not get a monthly stipend of free crowns). The trial can be found under the “featured” section of the crown store.

Obviously they need to do this as a last ditch effort to try and bring back all the players that left for Shroud of the Avatar. It’s so obvious… yea that i’m joking.

On a serious note though i certainly don’t miss gambling while in the shroud. not even a bit, so much so this headline made me think oh yea, wow that’s how much i don’t miss it, never even crossed my mind that it’s absent.

ESO is a great game now, compared to launch OMG. However playing shroud, you really understand how watered down ESO is compared to a real mmorpg, it’s an awakening.

Again nothing wrong with ESO, it’s actually… well for it’s worth is probably the best of the bunch, i think it blows wow out of the water, and Rift ect… but saying ESO is better than the shroud, vise versa, is like apples and oranges even though they are the same genre they couldn’t be more different.

I resubbed a few days ago, before I heard about the announcement. It was sweet realizing I had four days of Anniversary 100% experience left, as well as the ability still to grab motifs out of daily boxes. Seeing the free crate event was truly like icing on the cake!

The crates are only for being ALREADY paying for the sub. The free ESO Plus people wont be getting them. Still a nice promo but not AS nice.

ESO has the whole B2P/sub/cosmetic model down pretty well imo.

Only if you’re a whale or don’t care about cosmetics. Sure on paper it’s out of this world generous and it’s like zenimax has lost their mind. But have you taken anything to the counter and seen the price tag? It’s rift level whaling and then some.

What makes ESO’s crate boxes better than most other systems is that if you have duplicates of an item, or just don’t’ want an item, you can turn them back in for a currency that allows you to buy what you really want. It takes the sting out of seeing cosmetics go up that are only in the crates.

ESO’s sub is by far the best sub of all time, i haven’t played in probably a year or more but i leave my sub running.

It’s unprecedented, 1500 crowns is the same price as a sub, the bottomless mat bag, all dlc, plus other bonus’s. I probably have well over 20,000 crowns, and yea the weird part for me is i never really want anything they list cosmetic, but when i want something it’s not problem, i roll until i have the required gems, so even then they don’t leave you to endlessly gamble away into oblivion. <-pun intended.

You mean gems? Sorry i don’t gamble. Was only really considering direct purchase items.

Having said.. out of all the free crates received, i did have enough for a minature elephant (or the red lipstick) after the last free crates, so was pretty happy with that. Picked the elephant as i had just done orsinimum.

Theres no real ah, so wont bother suggesting they should make gamble cometics player tradeable like swtor.

Your right, they hide the ABSURD prices behind the crowns, know that crowns cost at most (without sale prices/bonuses) 1$ for every 100 crowns. Which means something as simple as a bank vendor you can summon, will cost you $50. A appearance style for some gear? Also upto $50.

The only reason anyone (Other than whales) even uses the crown store, is because ESO Plus subscribers (Which is mandatory if you like crafting or hoarding stuff or house decorating.) gives you 1,500 crowns per month, which is equal to it’s price of $15.

At least when you pay for content you know you’re getting a lot. I don’t own all content, but from what I own, I’m pretty damn satisfied.

Yeah for sure. If you only consider the content dlc’s eso’s are very high quality and reasonably priced (unless you want the collectors editions). I haven’t tried any of the dungeon only DLC’s so not sure how good they are.

If you don’t mind waiting a year for the anniversary sales they are amazing. For new casual players its a real option.

First time I’ll actually be subbed during one of these, looking forward to scoring some free lockboxes because why not.

For me, ESO really does well at making content for solo players and groups.

Why it’s easy for me to just leave the sub running, i get the urge to play the last thing i need is to deal with that inventory nightmare.

It’s cubersome and you need to have (a lot) of mules but not bad enough to make the game unplayable for me. I love crafting in eso and just recently brought Morrowind.
