Secret World Legends preps first anniversary event, delays next mission pack

If there’s one thing that the Secret World Legends team does really well, it’s keeping upcoming content, well, a secret. It can’t help itself there. Even so, Lead Designer Chris Meredith popped onto the forums to talk in broad, non-specific strokes about the next steps for this rebooted MMO.

First up is Secret World Legends’ anniversary event, which will debut sometime this month. Preparations are ongoing at Funcom for the celebration, and Meredith said that it is “close” at hand. Following that will be the next mission pack at some point down the road. Unfortunately, it sounds as though the studio had to delay it somewhat to get it done.

“Due to the cost and complexity of implementation, the pack won’t be ready as soon as we wanted,” Meredith wrote. “That said, I think you’re going to like it when it’s ready.” He went on to tease efforts in an experimental technology that will allow for difficulty scaling past dungeons.

One of the things I’m most looking forward to from the anniversary event is finally being able to fill out my museum, all those empty pedestals in the Guardians & Automatons wing have been bugging me for the best part of a year now.

Level-scaling the world would be a great addition. It would solve the ongoing problem I have of putting off completion of all content in a zone to avoid becoming ridiculously overpowered for the next. I’m enjoying the game but I still hate hate HATE the leveling/progression system.

Hell no. I didn’t do all the stuff on my main to get to IP 1268 so that missions still need the same time as on my IP 450 alt.
Being able to do a full set of New Dawn missions in less than an hour is a wonderful thing.

Hell yes, because having the world scale to your exact level at all times is not the only way you have to do it. I wouldn’t want that either.

Hell No! It would literally ruin the game, look at ESO, absolutely no point in getting better anything. In ESO there is no difference between a level 1 naked noob and a fully caped 720 player, all legendary, well one difference the labeling for the noob is white and the 720 is yellow. Seriously though outside of PVP, makes no difference anywhere even dung’s as they scale to lowest denominator.

The whole game is based on improving, remove that may as well just go watch youtube videos on SWL missions as it’s be zero difference.

Level scaling so there’s no visible difference between new players and Elite 10 veterans when running round Kingsmouth would be bad, but I also dislike the way being able to wander through half the zones in the game not aggroing anything and killing everything in one hit ruins their atmosphere, so a compromise somewhere in between would be nice?

For some players the whole game is based on improving, for other players the whole game is based on atmosphere and stories.

Also, I read “expand scalable difficulties ” as hinting more at “challenge modes” for a wider range of content than open world level scaling.

Well, hey. Even if it’s delayed, at least they confirmed there will be one.
