One Shots: Rave on Risa

I love how in the Star Trek universe, the universal consensus on what makes for an ideal vacation spot is a planet that looks a lot like Miami Beach. I mean, there’s a whole galaxy out there, people! Is it possible that there are any slightly more exciting, exotic, and thrilling vacation destinations than Jimmy Buffet’s island paradise?

Junior Ensign JonBuck doesn’t think so: “In Star Trek Online, there’s only one good place for vacations: Risa!”

Yes, I want to go to the place where humanoid cats are getting jiggy with it while wearing a two-piece. Wait, I thought cats don’t like water?

Or if you want a slightly darker and more demonic destination, why not swing over to Secret World Legends and traumatize your children for life?

That’s what Hirku did: “See kids? I told you Atlantic Island Park would be more fun than Disney World and—ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!”

I would not trust this ride, for the record.

“It has been written that human vacation habits are a product of their evolutionary past,” lectured Arkady. “We prefer to go to the hot savannas and seashores that we came from. If you would like to visit a land different from yours then go to Guild Wars 2’s Ascalon — the land that was yours.

It’s where they’re building Death Star III, don’t you know.

I think all of our collective mouths dropped open at the detail of this Black Desert pic.

“My Lahn caught in a zen moment near the base of the waterfall across from the sorcerer training ground of Tarif, Mediah,” said Toy Clown. “A perfect place to holiday if you don’t mind magic being flung around!”

Dak doesn’t mind getting suited up for his Warframe vacations, especially if he gets to blast everything there to smithereens: “Let’s be honest, that’s a damn pretty planet that humanity screwed over. The overgrowth of the industrial sections are just great — just avoid the tentacles. Or don’t, I’m not your dad.”

I… I thought the DNA test proved otherwise. Don’t leave me, daddy!

Every once in a while I like to encourage us all to stage a fashion show in the comments, so let’s do that this week! Show off your current favorite MMORPG ensemble and tell us how you put it together!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

So, I know I posted pictures already but…. With the release of Warframe’s “The Sacrifice,” on PC, I couldn’t help but notice a similarity between the new Umbra Warframe, and Stain from My Hero Academia.

While GW2 has plenty of appearance options, I want to get gear that will not be soon replaced before spending transmutation charges. Not there yet.

But what I do have is a character who carries a burning BBQ on his back. Which is nice.

Not all fashion is worn by people. MMOs are many and varied, some have player characters and other have player cars.

So here is a screenie from the now closed Need for Speed World. Where “holiday wrapping” decals were used in a way that the devs might not have planned.

This took me a while. I have played many games and have many pics. I had more to choose from before The HD Crash of 2016.

So to simplify, here are a few of my toons from BnS.

My Jin gunslinger Haliee shows that she is quite comfortable in any weather. This Soha inspired jacket, belt, and skirt combo keep her warm and dry in rain or snow. The versace all weather glasses add class to any occasion.

Roliee, a Lyn Gunner is decidedly more sentimental. His recently deceased Hongmoon classmate left him this wonderful purple outfit which Roliee wears on special occasions. His giant guns work well as an accessory.

Bayliee, is very comfortable wearing seasonal garb. In this shot she shows off her stunning but functional Haloween flair. The witches hat never falls off her head and the Black Maurader pants and tunic hide any mob blood splatter making it and ideal outfit for a days work and any Hallows Eve festivities.

Not to be out done, my Destroyer Haliee dresses up for the holidays in her dashing red Silent Night dress. Her giant ax works nicely as a back drop and the flowers in her hair add that special touch.

Actually, her name is Yaliee and not Haliee. Easy mistake to make. Lol

Last but not least, my Force Master Taliee shows off her fashion sense. She is wearing a magnificent outfit I call the Pink Trove (from the treasure trove). The dress is a perfect fit for days out on the sunny and scenic Soulstone Plains.

My gunslinger in BnS showing her latest outfit in rustic Jadestone village.
It’s also the place where many, many, many brave Bamboo guards died all too gruesome and violent deaths for her to be able to acquire this very outfit.

“Wait, I thought cats don’t like water?”

Most House Cats aren’t huge fans, but some enjoy it. Tigers absolutely love water.

Apes can’t swim, but you shaved ape humans can. So we can’t lump cats in with humanoid cat people, even though if we did there are plenty that do enjoy water :D

You can’t have fashion without mentioning the wonderful end-game content of Fashion-Fra- err… Warframe. When they announced a Nidus Deluxe skin, I couldn’t help but be drawn back to the strangely asymmetrical appearance of everyone’s favorite infested Warframe before the non-traditional styling of him shows up and I totally forget why I liked the original skin. (Hint Hint: Tentacles)

I think one of my favorite outfits in any game is still the one I have my EQII Mystic Katriana in. Part of why I use it for my avatar pic. Below is the full picture I clipped the avatar pic from, showing her posing with her pet spirit wolf Ghost. Also a pic of her outside Qeynos when it had some barrier over it (from story that happened while I was away from the game and I’m still very fuzzy about what happened).

I’ll post more pics later of other characters if I remember to take some selfies of them. The Secret World/Secret World Legends is usually my favorite game to play dress up in because of the vast array of clothing options there. I don’t have any good pics of outfits handy right now though.

“Show off your current favorite MMORPG ensemble and tell us how you put it together!”

I was going to post a screen of my Bosmer Nightblade from ESO. She has the Holiday in Balmora outfit, complete with shades of pink and white colours I picked up during Valentine’s Day. All were cash-shop purchases.

But this week I started again in Fallen Earth, a game where I spent hundreds of hours years ago. I rolled a new character before moving back to my high-level veteran just to get reaccustomed to all the complex mechanics and interface nuances.

I’d almost forgotten how gratifying it is to craft every piece of clothing and ultimately every weapon and vehicle in the game…sometimes the effort taking many days. Later on, helmets, armour padding, goggles, etc can be made. But early on, it is not terribly hard to put together a duster, leather pants and moccasins to get properly and appropriately started in a post-apocalyptic Grand Canyon.
