Armored Warfare announces China-themed Art of War expansion and November Steam launch

My.com has today announced a massive new expansion for its MMOsy wargame Armored Warfare. Dubbed Art of War, it’s due out “later this year” and features “a brand-new map set in the rural parts of South China,” new vehicles, better graphics, community-requested QOL tweaks, a commander system overhaul, and updates for the Waterway map.

“The brand new Seven Steps map will take players to South China. The rural area of the Baise region became a battlefield between mercenaries hired to protect civilians and ruthless corporate forces. Local triads have hidden a cache of valuable intelligence along with their ill-gotten fortune somewhere in a local village. Although they were soundly defeated, their secret remains buried in the general area. Commander, take the area and destroy your opponents to begin the search for what might set your forces up for life!”

Even better? The game is launching on Steam on November 10th ahead of the update. Check out the preview trailer below!

Armored Warfare reorients its business model to ‘improve overall ecosystem health’

If you were one of the folks who suspected the Cloud Pirates sunset was intended to divert resources to My.com’s other games, well, today’s Armored Warfare announcements won’t help change your mind: The studio has a producer’s letter out today detailing some major changes for the game, including for its business model.

For starters, My.com plans to unbundle bundle packages in the cash shop, allowing players to buy vehicles as standalone purchases. Players will be able to purchase premium time; prices will be unified across regions (“an item costing 9.99 USD on the NA server will cost 9.99 Euro on the EU server”), and “gold bundles will also be adjusted,” though currency conversion will continue on at the same rate as now. The company’s also promising new vehicles, available for real money initially before in-game currency, as well as a “regular, shifting plan of ‘standard’ activities” every week, which sounds a bit like dailies.

“Once the first phase is set in and working well, we will start working on creating deeper, more engaging in-game activities for special occasions. We will also start to try to create a more agile engagement plan. This should start kicking off sometime early in 2018.”

Farewell to My.com MOBA Cloud Pirates, which sunsetted over the weekend

If you blinked, you missed it: Cloud Pirates shut down over the weekend.

My.com announced that it was giving up on its Allods-themed Cloud Pirates MOBA back at the end of August; the game’s last day was technically September 29th, although when we tried to stream it Friday, it had already shut down, frustrating our farewell effort.

At the time, My.com didn’t explain the reason for the sunset, but we assumed it was simply a matter of its low numbers on Steam. The game’s western port had only been known for a year; it hit early access in February, then launched in April.

Our condolences to those affected by the shutdown. There’s a little bit of chatter on the game’s subreddit, including a screenshot gallery of the last days of the game, plus check out Last Level Press’ final video of the game.

Armored Warfare deep-dives the role of Armored Fighting Vehicles

The latest development diary on the Armored Warfare site is trying to answer a remarkably unclear question: What are Armored Fighting Vehicles? It sounds like a pretty strange question to ask, but that broad designation could include everything from tank destroyers to light tanks in a real-world context. Here, however, the AFV family consists of vehicles whose primary purpose is using their increased mobility and special ability to designate targets to serve as scouts and spotters across the battlefield.

AFVs are further divided into light and heavy categories; the former is faster and has an easier time serving as a pure spotter, while the latter is a bit more oriented toward fighting and works well at killing the former. In all cases, AFV players will need to make use of their mobility to stay alive, avoiding drawn-out gunfights in favor of zipping in, spotting, and zipping back out. Check out the full rundown for more on the battlefield role and several minor planned improvements for the AFV class in the future.

There’s also a trailer for the next episode of the game’s storyline campaign below. That’s unrelated aside from the fact that you may be exploring it in an AFV, but it’s still relevant.

Cloud Pirates is sunsetting at the end of September

Aw, damnit. My.com is giving up on its Allods-themed Cloud Pirates MOBA already. The company doesn’t say why, but given the successes of its other titles, we’re guessing it’s more about playerbase size in a bloated MOBA market than the company’s overall revenues, an assumption backed up by its low numbers on Steam.

“We are sad to announce that Cloud Pirates will be closing the servers on September 29,” says the studio. “It’s been wonderful sailing the turbulent skies with you, Captains, and we’d like to thank you for all your support.”

Beginning today and lasting until serverdown on September 29th, players will see doubled experience gain, virtually free in-game and cash-shop items, and free Steam DLC. You can also claim refunds on everything you bought since July 12th, convert your cash-shop currency to some of My.com’s other games (Skyforge, Armored Warfare, and Revelation Online), and enjoy the game’s latest patch, which rolls out today in farewell and contains custom matches, a new progressive PvE mode, and cash-shop currency as rewards for daily matches.

Armored Warfare will blast its way to the PlayStation4 in 2018

Tank MMO Armored Warfare is coming to console — or at least one console — My.com has announced today.

“My.com, Developer and Global Publisher is thrilled to unveil the future of modern tank shooters by announcing the availability of Armored Warfare for PlayStation4 for the beginning of next year. The military MMO lets players take control of modern tank or armored fighting vehicles and brings them to the heart of modern battlefields around the world, like frozen cities and sun-scorched islands. Compete with rival teams for domination of these hotspots or join forces with friends to carry out the most difficult missions sent down by command.”

Beginning today, “early signups” are open; they’ll snag you a free limited-edition LAV-150 90 wheeled tank destroyer for the PS4 edition. This is a free-to-play game, however. Announcement trailer + your eyeballs = below.

Armored Warfare announces Eye of the Storm expansion

This morning we had a lively discussion in the Massively OP office over whether or not Armored Warfare had ever actually launched. We thought it had, considering all of its releases to date, but in doing some research, we determined the game has simply existed in a soft-launch open beta state since October 2015.

Beta or no, the vehicle PvP game is getting ready to roll out a huge summer expansion called Eye of the Storm. Update 0.21 will add a new Panama Canal map for players to fight over and toss in Czechoslovak and Polish progression vehicles to add more spice to the combat front.

In addition to these headlining features, Eye of the Storm has plenty of smaller, but welcome, changes. These include economy changes that “justly reward” players, garage UI improvements, graphical upgrades, ammunition fixes, and revamps to the Narrows and Roughneck maps.

Take a closer look at the Panama Canal waterway map below!

Armored Warfare reworks the Ghost Field map

After some major mechanical changes, it’s possible that a lot of maps in Armored Warfare just don’t have the pop they used to. But you needn’t worry about the Ghost Field map, because that map has recently undergone an extensive overhaul for both PvP matches and Global Operations encounters. And these changes are all made with the recent mechanical revisions in mind, so you can be sure that things like foliage and cover are arranged accordingly.

In addition to new objectives for the Global Operations encounter, players will also note that tank commanders are no longer required to pay for ammunition or repairs. This allows you to focus more on controlling key points and deploying NPC assistance to take control of the map as a whole. Check out some screenshots and a video preview of the map just below. We should note that despite the name, the redone map still does not feature any ghosts; whether this is a positive or not will depend on your personal attitudes about fighting ghosts in tanks.

Armored Warfare launches its Tanks Reloaded balance patch and previews its immediate followup

It’s been a while since Armored Warfare first discussed its upcoming “Balance 2.0” adjustments for the game’s mechanics, but the first pass has been added to the game with patch 0.19. The patch adjusts tank gameplay extensively while simultaneously adding 26 new tanks to play. But that’s not all the patch includes; there’s also a new PvP map, two new PvE missions, a new Skirmish mode, and a new Global Operations match. That’d be enough for a patch even without all of the balance changes.

Also, that isn’t the end of the story; the game is already previewing its next major update, which will include more balance changes, a new Garage interface, another new PvE mission, and new UI elements. So the big stuff just keeps rolling along. You can check out a trailer for the most recent patch just below, and you already know what to look forward to after you’ve finished up with that.
