It’s finally time for me talk about Project Gorgon as a released product. As you might have guessed, I was avoiding the game prior to launch. I’ve spoken out against early access a lot and have realized that, at this point in my gaming/career, playing games I’m passionate too early can be a threat to both work and play. I wanted a relationship with PG, but I didn’t want to rush into anything pre-release. I wanted it as complete as possible.
MJ’s streamed it a bunch of times, including the day before launch. Eliot’s comments from his pre-release CMA feel spot on still post-release. However, as the resident old-man Asheron’s Call fan with a review copy, I think I can add a few comments about how Project Gorgon compares to AC1&2, plus how developer Eric Heimburg’s infused PG in AC-esque ways.
It’s a very happy new year in Project Gorgon, as this week’s patch brings not only a home for animal players but also free gifts through the new item delivery system.
By logging in and typing “/redeem Happy2016” players will be gifted with a party supply pack (one per account). Players with accounts made in or before 2014 can additionally type “/redeem IAmSoOld” for another goodie bundle. Additionally, many NPCs will now give gifts to characters who have taken the time to befriend them.
The January 3rd patch includes the first version of Animal Town on Sun Vale’s beach, where NPCs won’t even talk to you unless you’ve been transformed into a beast. Cows and deer characters can now level up to 60, and cows have a new tough hooves ability.

Massively OP’s end-of-the-year awards continue today with our blooper award for Best MMO Milking Sim. And the winner is…
What, did you think this award was just an excuse to pick on early access or crowdfunding “milking”? Not this time! Project Gorgon is the best MMO in which you can milk animals. In fact, Justin tells me you can milk other players too. Now that’s a sandbox.
Want to nominate another winner? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to check out our serious MMO awards while you’re at it.
Project Gorgon’s Kickstarter still has 10 days to go, so the devs at Elder Game have published a new set of stretch goals. They include an ancient vampire curse, a new and unique animal form with specific abilities, and advanced guild features on top of those already planned. Said features include the addition of unique behavior requirements like “humans only, no vegetarians, no plate mail, or even an all-cow guild,” Elder Game says.
Other guild system upgrades include an optional hardcore mode, guild vendors, ritual magic secrets, and of course guild prestige levels.
