Vendetta Online demos its VR capabilities at GDC

Vendetta Online was the very first MMORPG with support for the Oculus Rift way back in 2013, and you can see those VR capabilities in person next week at GDC.

“A prototype of Vendetta Online for the Samsung Gear VR will be showing with Oculus and ARM on the show floor of the 2016 Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco,” Guild Software announced yesterday. The PR notice suggests even more VR platforms are on the way:

“Independent game developer Guild Software Inc is formally announcing plans to launch Vendetta Online for multiple VR platforms during the first half of 2016. Supported devices will include the Oculus Rift on Windows, the Samsung Gear VR on Android, and the HTC Vive on Windows. VR support for additional platforms, such as Mac and Linux, will also be considered, but may not be available at the same launch time.”

This will be no surprise to long-time veterans of the MMO genre, as the classic sci-fi MMORPG has plainly made it a goal to launch on as many platforms as possible, including desktop, mobile, and the Ouya.

Vendetta Online is having a summer sale

Now is probably an ideal time to check out (or return to) indie space sandbox Vendetta Online. Guild Software is gearing up to release version 1.9, and it is also selling 100 premium subscription keys at 33 percent off the usual price. Premium allows unlimited play for a year on any platform (or any combination of platforms, since Vendetta’s single-shard universe spans PCs, Macs, Androids, and iOS devices), and it also comes with “long-term subscriber” status which grants a Corvus Greyhound camo ship to the user.

Vendetta’s most recent newsletter has further details, along with updates on the game’s new rendering engine and a recap of recent gameplay tweaks.

Vendetta updates with 1.8.331 build

Long-running indie sci-fi sandbox Vendetta Online published a new build last weekend. Version 1.8.331 improved high drain power cells, it buffed extreme drain power cells, and it tweaked turret weapon auto aim functionality.

Additionally, the patch made some behind-the-scenes changes to billing on Google’s Play Store and Amazon, which developer Guild Software calls “critically important” in the case of a large user influx as a result of being the featured title on a mobile platform. Vendetta features a single-shard persistent MMO universe which is simultaneously accessible to users on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, and Linux. Finally, Guild says it has “a lot more cooking in the background.”
