Saying that revenue from Secret World Legends
has “exceeded expectations,” Funcom opened up to Venture Beat
about what’s coming next for the supernatural MMO.
“Season 2 starts to unravel new questions, while answering other questions that have been laid out before,” said Executive Producer Scott Junior. “Players will be traveling to a completely new location, encountering new NPCs with fully-voiced dialogue and cutscenes […] The plan is to continue telling the story and continue adding unique experiences that haven’t been seen before in the game.”
Funcom is supporting this weekend’s Extra Life 2017 event by encouraging players to sign up and help raise funds for this charity. Secret World Legends players who participate will receive a special in-game t-shirt from the studio.
And while Halloween is over, Secret World Legends players know that the holiday never truly ends in their game. Check out an amazing pumpkin carving that a fan did of “Flappy” in Agartha below.
Just because it is All Saints’ Day doesn’t mean that that Halloween reveling is over! No, Massively OP’s MJ will continue celebrating the season as long as possible. And Dauntless will allow her to do just that. The Dark Harvest event just started, and she’s hoping to get in on the action. Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. to get a glimpse of this event; you might even win a code to join the closed beta and try the Dark Harvest for yourself.

Black Desert’s November 1st update
is sporting a couple of new ways for players to group up and pursue a common goal.
The militia system was designed so that all players, regardless of guild involvement, can partake in the weekly conquest war as an offensive or defensive member. On a smaller scale is the platoon, a temporary group of up to 20 players that are trying to knock out a shared objective.
Even as the patch rolls out, the dev team is scrambling to fix an issue with the recent Halloween event: “We’re working on a solution for the Halloween event that is good for everyone. We ask you not to make tickets at this time.”
Meanwhile, players over in Southeast Asia are being invited into the Black Desert fold for testing. Closed beta signups are currently accepting new applications, but no matter what, everyone can fiddle about with the character creator on the test server to see what they can make.
Something weird is going on at Gazillion.
On October 20th, the studio delayed its regular Friday Marvel Heroes update summary, promising details on Monday. Almost two weeks later, that update still hasn’t arrived, nor has the Marvel Heroes Twitter account been active, even through Halloween, traditionally a big season for the team – but there was no event at all on PC this year.
What has arrived? At least one key studio community rep leaving – Frank “Fenixion” Sanchez aka PhoenixRed, who announced yesterday he’s “made a decision to move on” – and casual posts from Gaz’s TheDink regarding Thor skins, which have thus far been announced only on the German-language PlayStation blog (update: that’s since been removed, but now it’s on the Dutch blog).
A month ago, the studio first shocked fans by casually announcing a new VR game for consoles and then frustrated PC fans by releasing a console-exclusive patch and continuing to promise to “unify” the three platforms in November. Which, you might notice, is now.
It’s All Hallows’ Eve: A time to spook and scare folks (and probably gorge on candy!). And Massively OP’s MJ challenges you to a scare off! Now that Hide and Shriek is free-to-play on Steam, everyone can join in this Secret World spin-off and sneak around trying to spook each other. Are you brave enough to join a match? Join us live at 9:00 p.m. to see who can scare whom the best.

What happens when you take a city full of trigger-happy mercs and toss in even more weapons and instruments of destruction? Escape from Tarkov is finding out this week thanks to a “major” update that introduced 70 new items, more communication commands, better optimization, improved starter gear, and advanced weapon handling.
Not stopping to even take a brief break, the dev team is barreling to bigger and better things: “The next important stage in project development will start with the open beta, which is scheduled for launch at the end of 2017. By that time, the game will be expanded with new game mechanics, improvements of existing ones, more optimizations of graphics and network components, as well as additional game content, including new weapons and locations. Also, in the coming months, we plan to localize the game into new languages, including German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified), Polish, Czech, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean.”
The conclusion of AQ3D’s Camp Gonnagetcha meant the beginning of Mogloween, and that means Massively OP’s MJ gets to dive back in and shove that giant gourd back into its own dimension! Who wouldn’t enjoy a little virtual pumpkin smashing on Halloween? Tune in live at 3:00 p.m. and join in the fun.

If you’ve followed any of our Halloween 2017 MMO coverage or even just skimmed through our great big guide to Halloween events in the MMORPG world, you’ve probably figured out that the one thing you can’t do on Halloween is everything. There’s just not enough time in the day for somebody to visit every single game and max out his or her Halloween skill. It can’t be done.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t try, however. MJ bravely trekked into 17 games so far to explore their Halloween offerings: Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, Black Desert, Secret World Legends, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, RIFT, Citadel Forged With Fire, Trove, Wizard101, Gigantic, DC Universe Online, AdventureQuest 3D, RuneScape, EverQuest II, Fortnite, and SMITE, with Hide & Shriek coming tonight! It may not be every game, but it’s a lot! We’ve rounded up all her tours and travails down below — it’s a good way to peek in on games you didn’t have time for. Be safe out there tonight!
We’re down to the wire on new Halloween celebrations in MMOs; indeed, some of them are already over thanks to patch schedules! But that’s not stopping a few last-minute stragglers, like Life is Feudal, which just posted up a themed trailer.
“When night falls across the land, scary things can happen in Life is Feudal: MMO – perhaps even sacrifices to dark, unimaginable beings! To celebrate Halloween, developer Bitbox has released a new video today, showing exactly how the game world changes at night – from a massive land of adventure and teamwork… to something much more sinister.”
Earlier this month, we reported that the buy-to-play MMO that spawned and survival sandbox and a strategy sim will finally soft launch into open beta on November 17th. The spooky video is down below!
Do skellys turn your legs to jelly? You might want to give Worlds Adrift a wide berth this Halloween season, then.
The dev team treated its loyal founders to a special gift this Halloween: a spooky glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume. Only current testers will ever be able to get this outfit, so if it’s a “must have” for you, you’ll need to buy your way into the game to secure it. The costume can be found in testers’ stashes and will only be available to claim during the closed beta period.
Apparently, this outfit was quite fiendish to create, which is why the lead artist spent over eight minutes discussing the tricks and techniques he used to make it. Check it out after the break.
Despite its utopian idealism, Star Trek isn’t a stranger to the occasional scary tale or horror-themed outing. Captains in Star Trek Online
have faced many terrors in the night, but perhaps none are as creepy as the one in Hearts and Minds
This special quest only pops up in the game on Friday the 13ths and Halloween, so you have a very limited time to check it out before it goes away again. It’s a “mad science” theme with a total of 13 (!) enemies that is decidedly different in tone than the rest of the game. The mission features some neat rewards, like a rare duty officer and a Vulcan Lirpa, and since it’s relatively short, it’s worth running to snag these items before they vanish.
Star Trek Online is also running a Halloween costume contest on Risa tonight at 6:00 p.m. EDT that will be judged by the development team.
Project Gorgon isn’t going to let a little thing like “being in alpha” stop it from indulging in the greatest monster-themed holiday of the year.
The fantasy MMO kicked off its brand-new Halloween event today. When players log in, they’ll be treated to a new quest that will branch depending on the choices they make. These choices may lead them to becoming a giant bat or gaining more bat abilities. C’mon, you know you’ve always secretly wanted to roleplay as a flapping terror of the night.
The quest and battiness isn’t all that’s new: “Some monsters now drop Halloween loot! The affected monsters include all undead plus giant bats, nightmare creatures, animals from the dimension of darkness (e.g. Misery Yaks), and various creepy humanoid wizard-types. Also note: to prevent abuse by high-level players, the very lowest-level undead, such as the ones on the newbie island, drop only a very limited assortment of Halloween items.”
If you’re missing the Halloween flair of City of Heroes today as I am, maybe point your eyeballs at Ship of Heroes instead. This particular spiritual successor has just revealed its Dark Magic Blast powerset, akin to the Dark Miasma-flavored powers in the original game.
“Dark Magic Blast fulfills the promise that there would be magically derived powers aboard the FHS Justice,” Heroic Games told us. “Dark Magic Blast is the first powerset created entirely with custom animations and FX produced by the dev team at Heroic Games. The powers are all unique, exclusive content; no purchased assets were used in their creation.”
The marks the fourth powerset revealed for the game, adding to Lightning Blast, Street Sweeper, and Fiery Blast. Alpha is still on target for the end of this year, with beta at the end of 2018. Check out the spooky new images and reveal video down below!
