Funcom opens new store to sell Secret World merch

A while back, Funcom fans were able to purchase The Secret World t-shirts and posters through Welovefine. While that storefront has long gone defunct, the good news is that the studio has created a new store to sell merch from TSW and other Funcom titles.

The Funcom Store doesn’t have the posters that used to be available, but there are plenty of other options to make up for it. Fans can purchase 3-D printed figurines (including Anarchy Online’s leet and Hide and Shriek’s screaming skull), phone covers, and a variety of t-shirts.

Of course, if you’re in the market for a new t-shirt, might we recommend a sharp-looking Massively Overpowered tee? It’s perfect for any business meeting or casual funeral get-together.

Chaos Theory: First impressions of Funcom’s Hide and Shriek

Have you been hiding and shrieking? I have! Hide and Shriek, the 1v1 Secret World spinoff that pits the much-loved Innsmouth Academy against the newly introduced Little Springs High in a PvP scare off, is now out for players to test their spook skills. Who doesn’t love a good scare, especially this time of year?

Like The Park, Hide and Shriek was an exercise in learning to program a game on the Unreal engine, except this time it was for the US-based Funcom office. Upon completion, the fruits of those labors were offered up to us to enjoy; I’ve been playing matches all week myself. So how is it? What do I think of the game? Is it worth the price tag (currently $4.79, going up to the full price of $5.99 November 1st). I say a resounding yes! Believe it or not, it is going to be encroaching on my Samhain event play time. The game isn’t for everyone, but I am finding it fun. Want to see more of the game for yourself? Tune into OPTV tonight at 9:00 p.m. EDT as Justin and I square off. (You could also win a copy of the game!)

Global Chat: The buzz over SWTOR’s December expansion

The Force is strong with Star Wars: The Old Republic’s new expansion, at least by all of the buzz that it’s created thanks to Knights of the Eternal Throne’s new Blur trailer and revealed details. MMO bloggers are dissecting every bit of this new information and finding much about it to ponder.

“We’ll actually be able to choose difficulty modes for story chapters now,” Calphaya noted. “I doubt that this will do anything more than increase health and damage values of mobs and bosses (although I’d love to be surprised!) but certainly this should be interesting to see in-practice. Certainly I know a lot of people have complained that Fallen Empire is too easy, so hopefully they’ll be sated.”

Ravalation thinks that all of this points to a bright future for the MMO: “Knights of the Eternal Throne promises a story as compelling as KOTFE, and then some. Although I know it’s unlikely to be the focus of things, I’m personally mostly looking forward to finding out what happens to Senya and Arcann.”

Star Wars not your jam? We’ve got bloggers weighing in on Star Citizen, The Secret World, Atlas Reactor and more after the break!

Hide and Shriek is coming on October 25, offers discounted pre-order

Funcom’s 1v1 scarefest Hide and Shriek will be here in a few more days, as the studio set the date of next Tuesday, October 25th, for its launch. Players can go ahead and pre-order the game through Steam, which if they do before the release will net them a 20% discount off Hide and Shriek’s exorbitant $6 cost.

There is a little bit of cross-over connection between Hide and Shriek and The Secret World, with the former existing in the latter’s universe. Players who buy Hide and Shriek will be treated to an unspecified cosmetic reward in TSW.

Curious what this game will look like in action? The studio released a new gameplay trailer that you can watch below (preferably with the lights out)!

The Secret World tie in to Hide and Shriek confirmed cosmetic only

Although The Secret World fans were hoping for even more details about the upcoming Halloween event, Game Directer Romain Amiel did offer up one very welcome bit of news; that the reward item that TSW players will get for purchasing Hide and Shriek will definitely be a cosmetic item. Amiel noted that the team learned its lesson from the Woodcutters best-in-slot necklace from last year’s The Park. Additionally, he revealed that the tie in will go both ways: TSW players will have something to help them when playine Hide and Shriek.

As for the 2016 Samhain event, Amiel said that it will have big monsters, brand-new rewards just for the holiday, and it will be investigation based. “Big investigations,” he said. “Think community-wide.” It will be “Easter eggs within Easter eggs within Easter eggs,” with many things to figure out and many paths to follow.

In other teasing, Community Manager Andy Benditt also showed off a small Draug Lord statue and told the audience that TSW had merchandise incoming that players could collect. He also revealed that the official site is price-matching Bundle Star’s sale price of 66% off for The Secret World right now. Unlike Steam or any other site, however, Funcom offers the complete edition, which contains the entire game and all issues. That means you get all the way through Issue #15 for just $23.79, just in time for the Halloween event! Additionally, the games purchased from the official site are not region locked like those on Steam.

Chaos Theory: Hide and Shriek in The Park of The Secret World

October is finally here. That means Halloween is this month! I can’t even describe how excited that makes me. I know I’m not alone in having been waiting with bated breath for any word about The Secret World’s Samhain holiday event. So when Romain “Titly” Amiel, game director, started teasing chunks of an image, many of us thought it would an announcement about the best Halloween celebration ever. It turns out it wasn’t, but maybe it was. The announcement is related to TSW. However, it might also be a tease for what will actually await us in TSW as well. It’s all about a new Secret World spin-off game.

Can Funcom’s upcoming Halloween title Hide and Shriek top last year’s The Park? Does it even need to? And what will it have to do with The Secret World? If these questions are floating around in your head, you’ve come to the right place for answers. They are:

  • Yes
  • No
  • Good stuff

OK, so maybe you’d like a few more details than that. Can do! Of course, we mainly have speculation at the point, but following the path that the past has laid out brings us to these very answers.

Scare your friends to death in Funcom’s Hide and Shriek

What’s Halloween without a little mischief and prank-pulling? Funcom is getting into the fun of the holiday with the imminent release of a new game, Hide and Shriek. In this title, two players will attempt to scare each other to death by setting up traps and tricks in a creepy high school.

Hide and Shriek will play out in ten-minute matches in which competing players explore Little Springs High School, setting up nasty surprises for the other to discover. Both players are invisible unless revealed through the traps, which means that they could be anywhere — even right next to you. Players can use 30 traps during the game and even wear scary mask versions of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to shock their foes. There is no release date posted other than “October 2016.”

The game looks like it has a connection to The Secret World: In one of its screenshots, a computer with the Anansi Technologies logo is shown, which is a fictional company that resides in the MMO. You can get a brief peek at Hide and Shriek in the teaser trailer after the jump.
