Order and Chaos Online player distributes GM powers, havoc ensues

Imagine this scenario: An MMO player somehow gains access to a "DevBox," a special set of tools that GMs and devs can use to manipulate the game world (such as spawn gold, move people around, etc.). Not only does the player start to go wild with this DevBox, but he or she makes copies of it and starts widely distributing these powers to other players, who also freely experiment with them.

That nightmare became reality this past week in Gameloft's mobile title Order and Chaos Online. Through these duplicated DevBoxes, players have flooded the world with ill-gotten goods and have been screwing around with others' game experience.

Gameloft performed an emergency hotfix yesterday to remove the DevBox exploit and vowed to investigate the matter. Players have reported that some who have messed with these tools have been banned.

Not So Massively: Path of Exile's Ascendancy expansion (November 23, 2015)

Online gaming and e-sports are getting bigger by the day, and there are literally hundreds of popular online games out there that don’t really fit into the MMO category. Join me each week for Not So Massively, where I gather together the top stories from the biggest MOBAs, competitive card games, first person shooters, and other popular online games in one place.

Path of Exile revealed details of its upcoming Ascendancy expansion and its new procedurally generated labyrinth system this week. Star Citizen also finally released its alpha 2.0 patch to the public test servers and revealed its expected launch date for the patch's final release. Destiny increased legendary drop rates with Update 2.02 and added some interesting hints at its upcoming refer-a-friend system rewards. Dota 2's $3,000,000 Frankfurt Major tournament was won by an unexpected newcomer from Europe, and one of the losing teams kicked a member for leaking game strategies and other instances of misconduct. And as if one player controlling two characters wasn't difficult enough in a MOBA, Heroes of the Storm's new character Cho'Gall actually allows two players to control one character.

If there’s a game or story you’d like to see covered in next week’s Not So Massively, please drop us a tip and let us know.

Order & Chaos 2 is launching next week

Need a hearty mobile World of Warcraft fix? The best substitute for a while now has been Gameloft's Order and Chaos Online, which, while a trifle generic, has been a big hit for the company.

Now Gameloft is trying again with a sequel, Order & Chaos 2: Redemption. The studio announced that the mobile MMO will be launching on Thursday, September 17th. The game will be available across several platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows.

Order & Chaos 2 takes place 600 years after the first game and includes a playable reptilian race and a new class called the Blood Knight. You can check out the prelaunch trailer after the jump!

Perfect Ten: Mobile MMOs coming soon to a pocket near you

It may be true that interest in playing and developing mobile games has peaked, although personally I very much like mobile gaming. On the flip side is the fact that studios like NCsoft and Nexon are investing heavily in mobile development, and games like Forsaken World Mobile are giving us hope that online RPGs are still seeking to break into the market.

Mobile gaming is so dang convenient, especially when I find myself away from a computer with a few minutes of nothing else to do. Waiting for my kids to get out of school? Spending quality time in the bathroom? Curled up in bed before sleep? All prime mobile gaming time.

It's been a deep desire of mine, then, to see a crop of good mobile MMOs spring up. While there certainly have been some, including the highly lauded Order & Chaos and all of Spacetime Studio's library, nothing has given me the same taste and pop that I get from a computer. Fortunately for me and other mobile gaming lovers, there are many up-and-coming titles in the MMO genre to watch. Will one of these be the game of our dreams? Let's take a look at the lineup and see if there's some promise here.

Mobile World of Warcraft clone Order & Chaos Online is getting a sequel that will be set following a world-shattering event at the end of the first MMO. Order & Chaos 2: Redemption is set 600 years later with a new landscape and epic struggle.

There's no word as to a beta or launch date, but the official site is taking pre-registration sign-ups for Order & Chaos 2. If you do, you'll be able to secure a few goodies for your account including an XP potion and a gem of luck. Gameloft said that it will continue to operate and add to Order & Chaos Online even after the sequel releases.

You can check out the teaser trailer for the game after the break.

Order and Chaos Online update adds dungeon, wheel of fortune

It doesn't look like peace is coming any time soon to Order & Chaos Online. In fact, a fallen angel named Annemone has invaded the game with Update 23, and it's up to players to put an end to her cackling laugh.

Update 23 came out last week for the mobile MMO and includes a new dungeon called Rising Flare: Burn Out the Night. This sub-volcano instance has three bosses and plenty of shiny new loot. Annemone's mischief isn't the only action that this patch offers, as players can take a daily free spin on the wheel of fortune for prizes and unlock special mounts for the Year of the Sheep event.

You can watch the Update 23 trailer after the jump!
