Space Engineers' lead dev details the planetary construction process

Have you tried Space Engineers since it added its ginormous planetary update? If not, you might want to watch the video dev blog that Keen Software boss Marek Rosa posted last week. "Planets are the biggest feature we've ever implemented in Space Engineers," he says. "It's bigger than survival, bigger than multiplayer, and it's really a game-changing feature."

Rosa says that Keen initially didn't plan to include terrestrial gameplay in its space sandbox, but after receiving lots of community feedback requesting the feature, Keen changed its mind. The process was challenging because planets in Space Engineers are "real," meaning that they aren't simply graphical constructs but instead volumetric voxel objects that players can see from a distance and then visit and change. The Stream Team: Stepping into Space Engineers

It has been a long, long time since MassivelyOP's MJ has ventured into Space Engineers. It wasn't that she didn't like the game (she does!), but rather that she had a hard time fitting it into her schedule. However, with the introduction of planets, her interest is renewed exponentially! The private server she played on is gone, so now she needs to find a new home. Tune in live at 12:00 p.m. to boldly start over where no MJ has started before.

Leaderboard: Would you play Space Engineers on a MOP private server?

I love me some Space Engineers, even more so now that Keen Software House has added huge, destructible planets to its space sandbox. I've mostly been playing alone, though, and I'm toying with the idea of setting up a dedicated Space Engineers server for the MOP community, much like our ARK: Survival Evolved shard that's been running for the past few months.

I can't make any promises right now in terms of a time frame, since that pesky thing called life is constantly getting in the way of my hobbies. But I can at least gauge your interest, right? So, how about it, MOP readers? Would you play on a MOP Space Engineers server? Vote after the cut!

PSA: Space Engineers is half price through Sunday

If you don't own Space Engineers yet, well, you should because it's really fun! Especially since the devs added ginormous destructible planets to their Minecraft-with-better-visuals-in-space extravaganza. You're also running out of excuses, since the sci-fi sandbox is currently half off via Steam.

You can pick up the game for $12.49 from now through November 23rd.

Holy crap, Space Engineers just added planets

Space Engineers has been all kinds of awesome for a while now. Today, Keen Software House made its sci-fi multiplayer sandbox even more awesome by adding planets. These aren't just any planets, but rather "fully deformable, destructible, and persistent planets" that allow players to use their space ships to descend from their space bases to the surface as well as "discover distant planets, build their new home, face new enemies, and even challenge pirates in survival mode," according to a Keen press release.

Space Engineers is entering its third year on Steam early access and has sold over 1.6 million copies. Check out the planetary update trailer after the cut!

Medieval Engineers adds multiplayer

Keen Software House has added multiplayer functionality to Medieval Engineers. What's Medieval Engineers? It's the firm's followup to Space Engineers, an enormously successful Minecraft-meets-space-survival sandbox sim, and it's currently in early access.

ME's initial multiplayer rollout supports all the features available in the single-player game's creative and survival modes, including mechanical parts, building and destruction, structural integrity, and NPCs. Players can also host their own dedicated servers for "more fluid multiplayer performance with less lag."

More info is available at lead developer Marek Rosa's blog as well as in the video after the cut.
