This week in MMO crowdfunding news, Voxelnauts pulled the plug on its own campaign. Not to worry, though, as the sandbox virtual world "will still be made," according to a Retro Ronin Kickstarter update. The firm says that it is committed to alpha testing at the end of 2015, and that it is currently "in discussions regarding necessary funding to make our metaverse a reality."

Are you interested in playing Voxelnauts, the "VR sandbox MMO" from Retro Ronin? If so, you might consider helping the firm out on its Kickstarter before it's too late. There's a bit over a day to go, and the game has thus far managed to raise just over half of its $200,000 goal.
Voxelnauts takes inspiration from the novel Ready Player One as well as virtual reality, and purports to allow the player complete freedom "to do anything, be anything, and go anywhere." Gameplay includes terraforming, determining rulesets for various planets, and character archetypes ranging from warriors to architects and beyond.
Looking forward to playing Voxelnauts? So are lots of people on Steam, it appears; as the game approaches the halfway point in its Kickstarter campaign, it's successfully been greenlit. It's good news for everyone hoping to nab the game via that popular service and a good sign of the title's positive word of mouth thus far.
There are 17 days remaining in the crowdfunding campaign as of this writing, with the total goal a little under halfway. To reward backers and onlookers alike, the team has released a new video showing off the game's teleportation, which you can check out just below.
This week in MMO crowdfunding news, The Repopulation got an official launch window. Then it got a new trailer. Das Tal got off to a good start as it eyes the second week of its Kickstarter, and Voxelnauts is now a thing. Or at least, it's a Kickstarter thing, including plans to allow players to "do anything, be anything, and go anywhere."

What do you get when you stick a sandbox, voxels, and VR into a blender? You get Voxelnauts, a new voxelbox -- actually, they're calling it a "metaverse." The studio behind the game, Retro Ronin, touts devs with Starbound and Firefall and Oculus pedigrees and launched a $200,000 Kickstarter last night. The lowest de facto preorder tier is $20. "Inspiration for Voxelnauts is drawn from the threads of the novel Ready Player One, virtual reality, and the melding of retro gaming with the games of the future," declares the Kickstarter pitch. "Voxelnauts is an MMO Sandbox RPG that allows you to do anything, be anything, and go anywhere."
The game is assembled from multiple planets and space stations ready for exploration for characters of persuasions ranging from smith to warrior to architect. Players will terraform each planet and determine its ruleset, including whether or not the stuff players build there is destructible. Based on the backer rewards, the studio anticipates launch by April 2016. "We have had strong financial backing from dedicated investors throughout the development process, which mitigates the chances that we will run out of money before completing our project," say the developers.
