RIFT’s 20-person Tyrant’s Forge raid opens

Who’s ready for some good ol’ fashioned raiding in RIFT?

The team announced last week that it has opened the new Tyrant’s Forge raid for business. Players can dive into this 20-person instance to tackle massive bosses and test their endgame mettle against new tactics. The rewards for doing so are tempting: Trion has promised “best in slot” gear for the victors.

Tyrant’s Forge is the locale of a showdown with Storm Legion’s Crucia, who is still up to no good and doesn’t know well enough to stay in her own expansion. Players will fight bosses like a giant shark-construct hybrid and a deep-sea mech named (we kid you not) PUMPKIN.

Just liking both your and GD’s comments because all things Rift are like that, something you can argue about back and forth. Some good, some bad etc. Its always hard for me to make up my mind totally when it comes to Rift. Some day once I’m no longer pissed at Scott and Trion over AA, I’ll have to come back and play some Rift. They lost two whale players with the wife and I, we spent quite a bit in their shop. I still think it’s the best version of the cash shop system that I’d experienced, though I’d rather not see such a system and rather have a subscription model without cash shops.

Edany (AmberACurtis) I agree that the grind for earring/PWW attunement is too much and encourages spending money a bit too hard. But then again, the fact still remains you can get it all through in-game currency, and that for an expansion, $25 to unlock a few things is pretty damn cheap. I mean, it’s not too much different than purchasing a LOTRO or WoW expansion, except that it’s cheaper : P

Greaterdivinity Edany (AmberACurtis) Fair enough, but in order to get equipped to be able to gather the BIS, you either need to grind heavily, or you need to pony up the cash. I left after realizing that no matter how many dailies I had time to do, how many quests, etc, I was not going to get enough to unlock the additional slots I would need to be competitive at the level I needed to be to get to BIS, make sense? Either way, all roads lead to the cash shop for the casual player such as myself, and that blows because I liked the game on so many other levels.

Edany (AmberACurtis)  ? You’ve never been able to purchase BIS gear, outside of a few odd/shady instances of essences that randomly dropped from chests. You’ve always had to earn the top tier gear in-game. You could buy up to the previous tiers gear, but whatever was current could only be earned by doing the raid.

Are there still 20 people playing RIFT?
All snark aside – promising BIS items for a 20 man raid isn’t going to sit well with the whales they’ve been catering to for the last year. At some point, I expect that there will be comparable items in the Cash Shop.

This game started with so much promise, such a damn shame.

Kudos to the few diehards who are still enjoying it though.
