SotA - Verdantis Shardfall

What’s new with Shroud of the Avatar? Quite a lot if you’re judging by the latest lengthy update (#112 for those keeping score at home). There’s an early look at the Necropolis dungeon, which backers will be exploring in “a few short weeks.” The post also contains some gorgeous pics of a new “marshy island” region called Verdantis Shardfall as well as shots of the Novia Overworld region.

There’s much more, too, but you’ll need to click over to the SotA website to read it all.

What do you want?  Crappy appeal-to-everyone AAA MMO clones, or indie games where they need money up front?  Your choice.

cald mindshadow grimjakk Those definitions came from Portalarium.  It may be different for other companies.

cald mindshadow  Closed testing could be labeled “No soup for you!”.

cald mindshadow grimjakk  Those terms are pretty fluid, even in the larger software industry.  Mix in paid “early access”, and they pretty much lose any meaning they had.  I think companies should start labeling projects as “raw” and “half-baked”… well, maybe not “half-baked”. ;)
How about “not soup yet” and “soup”?

Tandor Shadewalker They are improving but they still have so much more to improve.  They’ve repeatedly said that they’ve been holding off on some graphic updates and optimizations until they switch to Unity 5.  Well, they switched (for Release 15 in a couple weeks) and can’t use that as a crutch anymore.  Looking forward to the improvements this coming year, because even though it’s not going to be automatic with the switch, there’s just way too much expectation to show the improvements.

It’s still very early days, but I’ve noticed a big jump in the quality of the graphics with the latest update.

Elirion Siphaed That is true, but pre-launch backers who have these can also sell/trade them in-game with gold later if that’s what they want to do.

Siphaed Ethawn Definition of P2W aside (it’s highly subjective), you can buy or craft similar items in-game with in-game gold later.  There are some exclusive perks already mentioned in other posts here, like tax-free deeds but even those can be traded if the player is willing to sell them with in-game gold.
