You won’t have long to wait at all to get a shot at playing SkySaga if you’re in the US or Canada. The sandvox title is preparing to open its closed alpha test to North American players from Thursday, February 19th through February 26th. Thus far, SkySaga’s alpha has been contained to Europe only. Interested players will need to register on the website.

We’ve got the announcement trailer and a post-mortem of the alpha to date after the break. Be forewarned: After you see the trailer, you will believe that a bear can fly!

Looks really cool! I’m glad from the look of it you can have a 3rd person camera, I never really like first person mmos. Can’t wait for it!

“Too easy, too cartoony. ”

There’s something to be said for designing games that are too easy than too hard for the masses. I doubt most of the people who are playing just about any of these voxel/building games are looking for complexity; the majority are probably just looking for quick, simple and easy fun to get into with the emphasis being on the ‘fun’.
Kind of like how Heartstone is doing so well now (‘too easy/too cartoony’) getting new players vs games like Hex or MTG. Sure there’s a niche that want ‘hard’ games with purist art, but I don’t think the majority swing that way.
Minecraft had a good headstart for a number of years; let’s give the newer ones at least one before declaring them to have accessibility issues.

This game looks cute and I want to play it. The art direction is nice and it has a more adventurous feel than other games of this type. I’m looking forward to it. Not a single sandvox has interested me since minecraft so that must mean something. This seems like a healthy marriage of the stuff we’ve learned since minecraft and original ideas.

True that, but it still has the same issue:  Too easy, too cartoony.   I like my sandboxes to be a bit more on the nitty-gritty of things.
Minecraft had that with it’s  skeletons, spiders, skeleton riding spiders (that first time I saw this I nearly freaked the hell out!), and of course the big bad Creeper. I’ve since stepped up in my survival voxelbox into 7 Days to Die because the excitement of building, surviving, and fortifying.

A sandvox with cute blocky graphics? That should shake up the industry.

Drelkag I was able to register in the US. It’s only a chance at being in the alpha though. You have to get an email invitation to the alpha after you register.
