The Daily Grind: What’s your favorite MMO character for PvP?

Not actually my character.

I’ve been spending my gaming time lately PvPing in Guild Wars 2 in an attempt to reinkindle my old obsession with World of Warcraft battleground-style gameplay. It’s working: I really love the GW2 maps, and it thrills me that it’s one more fun facet of a game I already enjoy more than most titles still alive today.

(Of course, there’s no more disgruntled a group in GW2 than PvPers, and I’m sure I’ll get to that same point in a few months. But for now, while everything is still new to me, I’m actually *gasp* having a good time.)

I started out on my original main character, my Warrior, but found it too chaotic; I prefer more strategic PvP. Last night I switched over to my Engineer and had a much better time playing defensively with my wall o’ turrets. It’s not really anything like my sniper-esque Hunter from my old WoW days, but it’s working for me. Now if only I could port over my old Lieutenant Commander title!

I’ve been enjoying Frontlines in FFXIV (secure more so than slaughter), and I seem to do better as a Paladin as opposed to sneaking around as Ninja. I’ve got to be doing something wrong, I get more kills as a tank than as a DD.

I got for mage in any game. My bathrobe fools enemies that I’m weak and take me easy, and then I shoot a fireball in their face.

Well…it was a destruction warlock in MoP, mostly for the CC and flag-spinning options. I might be biased, since I lost a job during a part of that expansion and found the time to run rated bgs, which were less ugly in chat than PUGs. With the nerfs to CC and movement and my own transfer to China and WoW’s taiwanese servers for better ping (no achievements carry – even on the same btag. And my mandarin’s not quite good enough to run RBGs yet without feeling like I’ll hurt the group ), it’s not as fun for me.

Right now, I enjoy a Control Wizard in Neverwinter when I get that arena/bg-style PVP itch. It’s still fun and playable with 300-500 ping.

I’m also loving the GW2 necromancer – I can swap to a turret/pet based build for tower defense in WvW or stick to condition-based damage and play a support role for the team with heals and the temporary invulnerability while reviving downed members.

it’s strange, I suck at using my GW2 thief in WvW or PvE and yet I do really well with her in sPvP

I get no end of crap about it from my guildies but I absolutely love the GW2 Warrior and Guardian approaches to PvP.  In other games I actually have really fond memories of WAR, the Disciple of Khaine and Bright Wizard were a blast to play.

For coolness – my LotRO weaver ofc :D nothing can beat playing an big evil spider and killing all the “good” people.
For making a difference by myself – my RIFT mage, to play chloromancer (healer) in warfronts. Though my fun with that has decreased substantially since the latest expansion.

For teamplay – elementalist in the original Guild Wars. That game had good PvP.

Ugh, only 5mins to edit? :( Well, my best PvP char ever was my shadowbane Mage-Bard. I sincerely hope the Crowfall devs manage to introduce the same PvP mindset they had in Shadowbane. True group world PvP. Tracking, counter-tracking, EVAC, stealth-summoning groups behind enemy lines, territory control, …

True PvP is only to be had in MOBAs. MMOs are simply too reliant on a gear grind and class imbalances occur every time a patch is deployed. No fairer and more neutral playground than League of Legends.
That being said, I’m too old for those games. I simply can’t keep up anymore, reflexes not what they used to be. So I play LotRO, completely void of PvP (unless you head into the Trollshaws, which I don’t) and every so often some Rift, because it does PvP better imho than WoW, SwtoR, … Having a blast in there with my Tempest.

Valkyriez
Xbalanque is considered very strong in the current game. He is getting picked in the tournaments I watched last week.

I currently only pvp in Smite, where I mostly play guardian or mage sometimes hunter. I am currently working on Ares and Cupid. Scylla, Agni, Odin and Bacchus are some of my favorites.
