World of Warcraft goes live with Patch 6.1

It may be one of World of Warcraft’s smaller content updates, but Patch 6.1 still squeaks into that category with several quality-of-life improvements to the fantasy MMO.

Players logging in today will enjoy new Blood Elf models, an heirloom tab, certain graphical improvements, support for colorblind players, a racing minigame, and various tweaks to the garrison system. This update may also go down as one of the vainest that WoW has ever done, as a new feature will allow players to take character selfies and then tweet them to the world.

You can watch the video “survival guide” to Patch 6.1 after the break, and don’t forget to read Eliot’s column on what this update is missing.

6.1 or “The patch who never was!”

where is all the money going Blizz? Surely not into developing stuff for WOW.

Bolaum spellotape The layouts themselves are not really much different than the originals – to my eyes, anyway. Yes, they add things to them/take things out. But it’s like you wouldn’t walk in and say “this is totally different; I have no clue where any of this is. It isn’t familiar, at all”. Stone Vigil, Haukke Manor, Brayflox, Halatali … I could go on. Very similar. The architecture is the most “samey” thing about these dungeons. The main (and most important) differences are the encounters/mobs they add, which, in my opinion, are all improvements on their original versions.

spellotape Most hard mode dungeons are complelty new. They have a completly different layout, mobs, bosses, lore,… except Wanderer’s Palace Hard, the layout is nearly the same (2 or 3 rooms are different) but mobs and bosses are different.

If you don’t care about collecting, achievements, quests, LFR, or Blood Elves, there is probably nothing in this patch for you. I see comparisons with ffxiv a lot and it surprises me how ffxiv is lauded for frequency of patches when often the smaller/non-raid patches contain a similar amount of content (or less) to this WoW patch. Do WoW players expect more? I’m not sure, though ffxiv players often strike me as being extremely excited about new patches no matter what is involved (at least on online forums). I make these comments as someone who plays both games and feel like there are two big differences: ffxiv gets more use out of existing content (harder versions of dungeons/trials/tacking on another wing to the raid/lfr), and new quest content dwarves whatever WoW adds in terms of amount. Before anyone wants to list other major differences: yes, I’m aware of them, but I’m just speaking of what I feel like are the two largest differences (to me, anyway).

Let’s see, Slagworks LFR came out over a week ago.  I’ve only gotten in 1 LFR run…spending all my time in 1+ hour queues only logging off to go do something useful.  Yet the premades tool is full of Highmaul groups, and almost no Slagworks groups.  What gives?

The only exciting part of this patch for me was the new blood elf models which look amazing! IMO. Other than that a small part of me wants to resub but I know I will more than likely quit soon after…which they launched more content in patches like FF14 seems to do but different publishers different priorities I suppose…

Not impressed with the patch.  Nothing that I couldn’t have waited for in like the “interregnum patch” “between” expacs …

I am a WoW player … still playing … and have been since open beta … and to me this is the most disappointing patch in the history of the game.  Not worthy of a x.x indication in IT terms … more like a x.x.x.x … those that know will understand.

Blizzard may be excited about all the crap they put in the game but, at least this player is less than impressed.

Best thing about patch 6.1 is that it is behind us and HOPEFULLY 6.2 will drop soon and have some actual content. :P

Pathetic.
But in all fairness, they must be having budgeting problems, small companies like this tend to.
At least we can be glad they are giving us the privilege of buying a nice looking store mount compared to the re-skinned garbage that can be now found in game.

10/10 company score. would unsub again.
