RIFT’s anniversary carnival returns with a party duck

12

It’s hard to believe that in a few days on March 1st, RIFT will turn four years old. According to the site, the fantasy title has racked up “two expansions, four islands, six dragons, and 22 updates.”

So how will RIFT celebrate the occasion? By throwing a carnival, of course! The annual birthday Carnival of the Ascended will be returning with plenty of minigames, quests, and prizes for all to enjoy. There’s even a new twisted carousel ram mount to go with loot piñatas and a party duck pet. Party duck never commits a party fowl!

The anniversary event will continue through March 18th.

Thanks for answering. I’ve appreciated some of RIFT’s character costumes / clothing in screenshots. I played it in beta but it just didn’t have that ‘spark’ for me but I’ve meaning to go back and give it another go.

hardy83 Sorenthaz  Well the first year anniversary wasn’t too bad.  It was after that though that it started going downhill.  But yeah… the grind is stupid, and their justification is that you can do it again next year and they don’t want you getting everything in a year.

Yeah a pretty big one in fact. Hell they have gear just for it and you can have over 20 premade costume sets you swap beteeen

The costumes pictured here look pretty cool!

…and reminds me of the Carnival of Shadows in CoH…  :(

Does Rift have a wardrobe / appearance only system like TSW etc. ?

More quackery I take it…

Sorenthaz Yes. It’s incredibly grindy to get anything in the shop without dropping money.

Before people complain about it being F2P, the grind was fairly insane even before it went F2P.
Trion (or at least the Rift developers) just doesn’t get events. They think it’s a time to take the regular MMO end-game grind, multiply it by 100, and compressed it into 1-2 weeks and call it fun.

I’ve always hate their stupid events, ever since the River of Souls one.

Hilariously enough, I think the events in Defiance are FAR better. I haven’t participated in ones for AA.

Been playing a LOT lately because of the normalized/scaled XP/currency rewards in Instant Adventures.  I hope that the fact that Silverwood is always the ideal, large-grouped IA area sends the message that many players desire a gaming option that is more “time spent” than “twitches succeeded. ” Sometimes we just want to progress in time that isn’t wasted, and not to be challenged at every corner!

So are the minigames still stupidly tedious and grindy?  Because last I checked Trion was fairly stubborn about keeping it that way, and that was before it went F2P.

For a moment, Madda forgot that RIFT was still alive.

That duck is dynamite.
