H1Z1

Daybreak released a new behind-the-scenes video focused on H1Z1’s motion capture this week. If you like seeing dudes in skin-tight lycra suits with little blue velcro things all over them, this is your vid. Senior artist and animator Dave Carter is your host, while motion capture artist — and former Clemson University football player — Christopher Robbins takes you through a physically demanding day in his shoes.

Polyanna Just look at what happened to the secret world. Animations are so incredibly important. I’d like to see the look on your face if you start a new game with old fashioned hand animations done by 3D animators. It’s something I really dont want to go back to. Going back to TSW, if they had  downloaded some free motion captures and used those instead of those 6 frames a second horkiness that they have now, they would have had lots more players.

Polyanna I don’t find it pointless and annoying. If a game doesn’t succeed then all that hard work goes away.  Videos like this not only help show some appreciation for all the hard work people are doing, but act as marketing to get people interested in the game, and having my favorite games succeed is important to me.  (Not saying H1Z1 specifically is one of my faves, just speaking in general here.)

If you hate this game, these “making of” videos are just so much more pointless, annoying fluff. And if you love this game, these “making of” videos are even more annoying fluff, because you know that someone wasted their time making this stupid shit instead of making the game.

Yeah, yeah “different departments” yada yada “filmmakers are not coders” they’ll all say.

To which I reply: If this is all that the person who did it has to do with their time, fire them and spend the money on better coffee for the people doing the actual work.

Cujo H Alex J No, you’re attacking ME, simply because you were unable to read my original reply properly and also took it in extremely serious way (which you should NEVER do on internet). But whatever – let’s just “agree to disagree” about this game and move on, ok? ;-)
