Heroes & Generals

Reto-Moto has added a third faction to World War II strategic shooter Heroes & Generals. The game’s “largest ever” update includes the Soviet Red Army along with 14 new vehicles and 1,000 new European battlefields.

All of the game’s weapons have been re-balanced, new three-faction victory conditions have been introduced, and new strategy mechanics including retreats and supply line skirmishes are available in the game’s generals mode. Heroes & Generals allows for action-based play via infantry, pilot, and tank driver roles as well as strategic play involving the management of battlefield assets, units, and reinforcements.

The frustration from exploits was what broke the game for me.
There is only so many times that I could take being machine gunned to death from beneath the map!
But I am going back this weekend to try the new update out for sure.

This game is good, but need to fix the balance, grind and terrible party support.

Been playing for about a year and I’m so psyched that the Soviets have finally been added. I’ve spent more time and have had more fun playing Heroes & Generals than any other game except for City Of Heroes.

The game isn’t perfect. There are still many issues that need to be addressed. But none of them are game breaking or result in more than occasional frustration. Really looking forward to what the future brings for H&G.

Great game, really needed another faction. I love H&G but haven’t played in a while this is a great reason to check back in.

pjkorn71 Pretty sure that’s all ingame footage, maybe some extra blood and particle effects but I recognize all those spots from in game maps.

Have they fixed the Trainstation map underdround exploit yet?

Cause that’s why I quit playing.

The game definitely doesnt look like the video, more like BF1942.

eLdritchMD Damonvile Those are all true. Tanking in general just isn’t that fun except for those few battles where both sides have tanks and support. The teller mine thing really needs to be addressed. There is already so much anti tank weaponry, the shooting the mine thing needs to be removed. If you drive over it fine, if they place it right under you and you drive over it fine….but plopping it down next to you and shooting it with a gun, and insta killing you is dumb.

The UI is one of my big frustrations. It’s so bad, non functional and I’d even go so far as say it’s clunky as much as that term bothers me. for example, as soon as you get an invite to a squad that’s all you can do it blocks every other window and once in, you can’t do anything but wait to load into a game….

The match making is just bad and the way they do tiers of things is obviously balanced to the war with no thought to random battles at all. A tier 7 light tank fighting tier 5s isn’t balanced. I don’t care how long it took you to get it. It’s a big advantage. And the reverse of that, dropping a tier 5 med into a battle with tier 9 meds isn’t balanced either. Those tanks will eat up your deployment. It doesn’t matter if you get them 4 tiers early, you’re going to have crappy low xp games in them while the poor sucker in his tier 9 light is going to be out tank raping the other side getting 4 or 5 times the xp.

But despite all that the game is fun and if you can deal with a little frustration it’s worth playing. Things like personal effort rather than team wins being more important is a great thing. If I go out and have the battle of my life while my team is a bunch of mouth breathing knuckle draggers the only real difference is the 50 xp I might have gotten if we won. That’s far less rage inducing than WoTs if you lose you get 50% less of everything.

Damonvile what they really need to work on is the maps and the badges… It’s nice to see them adding anything at all but those 2 areas definitely need the most work.

the badges are all a bit too must have… like if you want to be an effective tanker you have to get top badge in chauffeur… which you can’t do as a tanker… *rolleyes* so you end up grinding it in lowbie matches by practically kidnapping newbies and driving them across the map…

and the maps… oh my… the skirmish maps are pretty good but factory and city (the only conquest maps) are both so very flawed… basically the attacking team has to rush through in one go or they lose the game. It always plays out that way. As soon as the attackers lose momentum, the defenders easily hold them off and then that’s that which means the games are always either 5 minutes or 30 minutes long.

Some of the infantry spawn points are really awkwardly placed so that you spawn on a mountain somewhere way off where you need to go without the ability to spawn vehicles meaning you have to spawn further back or get mowed down by camp tanks and snipers… just… ugh.

When the game is good it’s REALLY good. I’ve had so many awesome moments with my tanker both in a squad and solo but there are undoubtedly big, big problems with this game that need to be adressed. Sadly it’s another one of those Early Access games that just looks like it will always be in Early Access and they just try to use it as their criticism shield…

I will say though that they at least got the rampant hacking under control…ish. So good on them for that.
