Riot and Blizzard are purportedly good to their employees

You have to be really bad to get kicked out of here, that's the takeaway.

Want to be a game developer? Why?! Don’t you know it’s all about long hours, low pay, and angry pitchfork-toting man-children who want the fruits of your labor for free?

OK, it’s not always like that, especially at companies like Riot and Blizzard, both of which have made Fortune’s list of the 100 best companies to work for in 2015. League of Legends juggernaut Riot places 13th on the list, while the house that WoW built brings up the rear in 96th place.

Far easier to be a cool company to work with when you have a Smaug-like mountain of gold coins.

NCsucks Riot and Blizzard has the reputation of being awesome since before they were making the big bucks. I have heard though that blizz has gone down hill, funny enough many of their members joining the ranks of Riot.

Company’s that make big money don’t always treat their employees well. For a lot of companies, many of the people are easily replaceable.

Estranged Sorenthaz Karl_Hungus ManastuUtakata  Pretty sure he responded to Twitter posts regularly still even after ducking away from the forums.  So yeah, he did discuss stuff with people still.
And even after leaving WoW he still answered a lot of questions and stuff from people asking about design decisions and so on.

Burned out dealing with WoW players.. so he switched to dealing with LoL players? Yea, more like he got burned out dealing with too many chefs in the WoW development kitchen and wanted to work for a company that has a unified focus.

“…and they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse…”
That would imply cake or death, Karl. That is, if he doesn’t take this wonderful offer, something horrible is going to happen to him, his loved ones and/or that pristine collection of sparkle thoroughbreds he has tucked away in the back garden of his property. So I very much doubt that happened….unless GC is in bed with the wrong people. o.O
