Albion Online’s summer alpha to bring crafting, economy, and combat changes

11

Albion Online’s winter alpha event is over, but the dev team is utilizing the information gleaned from it to prepare for the next one coming in summer. In his latest development update, Founder and CEO Stefan Wiezorek outlines various changes in crafting, the economy, and combat that players can look forward to.

Economy-wise, mobs will drop fewer or no finished items, silver will be earned from PvP kills, guilds will have market places, and silver requirements will be removed for farming, planting, and crafting. Additionally, players will be able to trade gold and silver via a special market system instead of relying on global chat. The value of crafting is getting a bump with the introduction of crafting endurance, which will limit the supply of special or higher-tier items. And in the realm of combat, random Hell Gates will spawn demons that open a portal to a dungeon if defeated and special chests will spawn in PvP lands as an incentive to lure players there.

There’s also a new PvE faction system incoming, and devs are implementing a mechanism to combat pay-to-win. More details on all these systems and more can be found in the update notes.

_Ariel_  The game itself is in great shape asset wise. The UI and number mechanics are being tuned up from player response.

I didn’t play too much in the winter alpha, but did play some and was surprised how much fun I was having despite its feeling a bit on the grindy side.  It had that “just one more x” appeal to it.  Thiese all sound like good changes, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for summer alpha.  I’ll be happy to play in it because, if for no other reason, it’ll let me know it’s finally summar and I’m done with this freakishly awful winter in Boston I’m entirely too sick of.

Drelkag apart from being annoying as all hell to have to grind for hours on end to do any crafting ._.

Why is this game taking forever to make? It’s a top down low poly sandbox for Christ sakes, you’d think they were making star citizen.

Sounds like great changes. Last alpha the silver required to do anything made any profits you had from killing fresh mob spawns pretty much nothing.

Thinking of backing this when I’m able, I like the art style and the gameplay seems well thought out. Also looks like would be nice on a tablet for traveling light. I’m to lazy to hump around a 5 lb laptop these days!

This is one early access game I do not regret backing. I love the communication from this team. They listen and make real, major changes when needed. It’s awesome.

Most of the changes they made are pretty much exactly what was needed and the rest of the changes are kinda “lets wait and see how this actually works out.”  The economy definitely needed a complete overhaul as grinding silver for 6+ hours a day for one suit of gear that you could lose in 30 minutes or less in PvP was pretty silly.  Getting the resources for basic (T4) gear wasn’t that bad and without the silver requirement should be just fine.
Also the P2W gold part is pure awesome.  There was way too many ways to P2W before and it was nothing like PLEX like they tried to justify the system as.  Was pretty bad when in first 2 weeks of Winter Alpha I was already hearing things like, “Flip the P2W switch on and just buy it with gold.”  In the new system it will be much closer to the PLEX system since there’s no direct way to apply Gold to in game and you have to go to other players to sell your gold for Silver that’s actually usable for normal game purchases.
All around thumbs up.
