DUST event orders the death of five million clones

As the saying goes, one death is a tragedy; five million is a pile of loot.

At the start of this month, DUST 514 ordered the player-driven execution of enemy gamers for the Five Million Clone Challenge. The team promised rewards to all participants who racked up at least three kills if the collective goal was met. With the help of a deadline extension, the five million line was crossed today.

CCP will be handing out an “event-exclusive BPO item,” 1,000 warbarge components, and 20 decryptor keys to qualifying participants.

_Ariel_ ocdtrekkie Denice J Cook I really like walking in stations. There were potential in it. But now, it is gone.

Incarna didn’t bomb, the null sec alliance leaders organized the crashing of the server in protest of what they percieved as a negative addition to the game, and CCP caved.
They will live to regret that decision imho.

Fair point. Lets hope those South American groups can keep growing while the rest of the world seems to be bailing out.

Kazamx ocdtrekkie Different groups of people come and go. So while some other groups have moved on, other groups have moved to take their place. Like the aforementioned South American groups.

Denice J Cook ocdtrekkie Failing to continue develop Incarna will probably be in retrospect viewed as one of the largest mistakes CCP ever made. Right now they’re woefully unprepared to compete with newcomers like Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous.

Maybe WoD was cancelled because it was based on the same tech that produced the lame-arse Incarna/walking in stations for Eve Online.  Incarna bombed big-time in Eve, and rightly so, as the controls and animations were so awful they made indie 1990s games look good.

And so five million clones die alone with the excuse I used to buy a PS3. I do hope Project Legion ends up being the next A Realm Reborn if even on a smaller scale. I’m one of the guys who tried so damn hard to like the game too. The hype train was going full speed until reality sunk in.
I’m far from the only one here who had this experience with DUST.

ocdtrekkie solipsis Less than 2k average online and falling: http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust
I bet PC port won’t return investments – there is a ton of boring lobby shooters available already. Same for Valkyrie: Star Conflict is built on the same scheme, it’s decent game – yet it barely gather 3k online.
