Utherous

If you’re wondering what sort of games can be made with Unity-based Atavism MMO Creator, look no further than Utherous. It’s an open world sandbox title with “unparalleled land size,” according to its website. Unparalleled in this case means 4000 square kilometers, and while there’s little detail regarding combat, PvP, or the like, creator Thomas Timothy told MMORPG.com that crafting is a “core mechanic.”

There’s a pre-alpha video, too, which you can view after the cut.

I am the community manager for Utherous and I just wanted to pop in to read your feed back and let you know we are listening.   We are still very early in the development process but I will do my best to get you answers if you have any questions. Sorry for not getting in here sooner, I didn’t find this article until this morning. Thanks for taking the time to check out the game even if it’s not your cup of tea!

Honestly, I’m kind of sick of these “waves” when it comes to genres of games. I’m all for variety, but it seems we’re now entering the wave of the Sandbox MMO. Before it was the wave of the Themepark, then there was the wave of the MOBA, maybe the wave of the RTS will be next, who knows.

All I know is, I’m glad to see there’s more Sandboxes being released on the horizon, it’s been too long, I just hope Themeparks aren’t totally left behind going forward as both have their place.

Styopa It’s still 3 times bigger then Asheron’s Call, but half the size of LotRO.

Zarkov by this logic you can’t dislike a movie until you’ve made a better one.

ManastuUtakata Flamethekid Sorenthaz ArbsX  Well, the threat of jail or death, etc. has never actually stopped all crime.  It should, however, be part of a justice system in a game that is truly trying to be realistic… it would be nice to see a justice system that mattered more than not in more of these games.  As it stands, justice systems tend to be a weak slap on the wrist that has so many loopholes and workarounds that it turns into a fun mini-game enticing people to go off and break the rules of society.
In games that are not PvP heavy, like themeparks or single player games, the lack of a more punishing justice system is a solid part of gameplay (you get to decide, and you aren’t punished very hard as it really only affects you.)  In the online gaming world, however, your points are spot on… crime should be handled quite seriously.  That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be possible, but a trip into town while on the wanted list should be something that is difficult to pull off.  Have guard patrols head out down roadways, and the ability to have players take actions against those doing these things (maybe a full on bounty hunting system where you can find clues as to which direction they went every so often.)  DO NOT LET IT BE HIDDEN BEHIND ALTS!!!  (Yes, that statement deserves the full caps!)
In the end, doing all of this would force those interested in the criminal style gameplay to work together, find places out of the way to hide and build up their own little spots, and make attacking people a real risk.  There are a variety of ways upon which this could become a truly deep and worthy part of gameplay.  As it stands, however, there is absolutely nothing in the majority of MMOs that actually serves as a worthwhile justice system… and that is sad.

cald samruck MOBA is inspired by strategy games. So, I would like MOBAs with more strategy elements and some tower defense elements too.
