There are lots of combat changes in Darkfall’s latest patch

This will work out all right. We're all right with the events unfolding at present.

Darkfall’s latest set of patch notes details quite a few combat changes for the FFA PvP fantasy sandbox. Aventurine has tweaked player movement and says it is now “more fluid and responsive.” The catch, though, is that “bunnyhopping needs tighter timing in order to pull off.” The patch notes state that the devs expect a lot of feedback in this area but that they also expect that the changes will take time to properly evaluate.

Additional changes include a strafing speed nerf and a mounted combat damage buff. Many skills were updated as well, so be sure to skim the patch notes if you’re currently into Darkfall.

To offset the bash-fest going down in these posts, I’ll say that I played DF maybe 6 months ago. For a 2-3 month stint. I really enjoyed my time there. There is plenty of PVE to do while leveling up. The end game is obviously pvp (it is a PVP game). I had a great time leveling my skills, exploring the huge open world, running dungeons, crafting, fishing, farming, etc. My biggest gripe with the game was the clunky movement, so I’m happy to hear they’ve made adjustments.

Any game that doesn’t heavily penalize bunny-hopping will not have me playing it long.  Such an absurd and annoying thing.

Perfect Hero That’s pretty much what they tried to do when they relaunched Darkfall as Darkfall Unholy Wars, they  dumbed it down a lot and made the combat less skill based and it only worked against them, they lost a lot of players because of that.

Lately it seems they are moving in the right direction again, but it’s probably too late.

Perfect Hero  “average player gets mowed down in seconds by a guy hopping around with a bow never missing a shot. Then he has to go spend 3+ hours gathering materials to replace the armor he lost.”

I think you’ve just identified the entire game’s meta

Even the combat is not very good. It felt like a early 3d fps game with poor physics. Them adding bunny hopping back into a medieval fantasy mmo just reeks of desperation to me.

I logged into darkfail again during one of their promotions a while back. The world was still empty of players and the only action to be found was in the form of 8 or 9 guys hanging out in the safe city challenging each other to duels. The game just doesn’t offer enough outside of FFA pvp combat to even have the RPG appended to it’s MMO. It’s just a combat arena with low population.

This game is alive by a shoe string. that shoe string should of snapped ages ago but they seem to be very persistent in not letting it fall into the dark as its name suggests darkfall but its never fallen!?!
Even though hardly anyone but a trickle of players play it! poor sods..
