Halo Online is coming to Russia only

Several years ago Halo fans were excited to learn that their favorite franchise was set to receive the MMO treatment. While that project ultimately did not pan out, it looks as though there may be a do-over of sorts. That’s right: Halo Online is coming! To Russia only!

Wait, what?

Indeed, the popular sci-fi shooter will be released in Russia as a free multiplayer shooter set on a space station. Halo Online will be a PC exclusive and is currently working toward a closed beta test for this spring in the region. It’s being developed by 343 Industries and Saber Interactive while it will be published by Innova Systems.

For those wondering whether the game might some day come to their home region, the official FAQ offers this shred of hope: “Right now our focus is on learning as much as we can from the closed beta period in Russia. Theoretically, any expansion outside of Russia would have to go through region-specific changes to address player expectations.”
