I don’t have a lot of experience with MMO cash shops. I’ve used a couple of them to spend Turbine points or Funcom funny money or whatever virtual currency I received as part of my subscription. Oh, and there was that one time that I bought Nightcrawler in Marvel Heroes.
Today, though, I’m curious to know about those really obnoxious cash shop items. I’m not talking about cosmetic outfits or polka-dot mounts, but rather things that give a decided advantage to a purchasing player versus a player who abstains. What say you, MassivelyOP readers? What’s the most game-breaking cash shop item you’ve ever seen?

Grimnomancer Anytime buddy
SallyBowls1 “Almost none of the EVE customers consider it p2w. ”
It’s because you just can’t “win” Eve.
EatCandy I think there’s a difference between your feeling being hurt and being gamebreaking.
Gotta agree with Inventory Space and a ton of ArcheAge’s stuff.
But for me the worst one was when The Old Republic went F2P and they started selling EXP Boosts on their cash shop. At about the same time I swear they nerfed EXP across the game so you either have to grind the Korean way for levels, or pay for boosts.
Bags. No, not bank space. Character inventory space. Bags for sale on the cash shop and no way to get or make them in the game. This is not 1999; this is a time where 1000MB drives are sold at retail for $60. There is no reason to even have inventory limits let alone selling bags for real cash. That is the number one thing that keeps me from playing Neverwinter — $30 per character to fill my bag slots; give me a fracking break.
I get so sick and tired of people whining about how it’s not fair some one got to spend money and got items, Oh boo hoo, how about you stop worrying about how other people play the game and concentrate on how you play it.
It’s a game just like life it’s not fair, there will always be people that had it easier then you. You had to work for a used car they were given a brand new Mercedes. You can only afford a gaming rig with an i3 and a GTX 750, they have a i7 and Quad SLI TitanXs. Stop trying to force your idea of fair (read it’s not about fair its about i can’t have it so I don’t want them to have it either) down every one’s throat.
Life is not fair, it’d not fair day to day, and it is not fair in the games we play either.
BryanCo Red Alert I’ve just started playing and that was the first thing people recommended I buy with my cartel coins. It doesn’t feel that game breaking to me, though, it feels more like, twinking an alt only without a main’s deep pockets to pay for it. Instead I’m using my coin stipends.
Thank you for being delicate when informing me I have ‘the crazies’.
;)
Screaminhotdog It was pretty terrible…thankfully they responded to feedback though. If I remember right, it only lasted a week between patch and the first hotfix.
A Dad Supreme Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that ever made it past PTS. They (rightly) got a lot of flak for that and pulled it.
