Dungeons & Dragons Online previews the Temple of Elemental Evil
The team behind Dungeons & Dragons Online loves to make references back to the classic tabletop game in both dungeon design and gameplay. The game’s next update adds in the Temple of Elemental Evil, a classic module that explores deep themes involving man’s inhumanity to man and the need for a unique identity in a post-global cultural landscape…

Nah, just kidding. It’s a temple full of evil elemental stuff. Just what it says on the tin.

What, you think that’s a bad thing? Well, check out the video past the cut and then re-evaluate your decisions. Yes, the centerpiece of the next DDO update is shown off by the developers just past the break in a video that comes in just over 45 minutes. That’s a lot of elemental evil to take in. Kick back and enjoy it!

I missed the online and thought it was remastered ToEE game i played ages ago. I think it is still the only pc game that really honored tabletop rules.

I tried DDO years ago but was disappointed in its hub-with-instanced dungeons design.  Not gaining experience for killing mobs (but only for completing dungeons) didn’t click with me either.

I’d like to see an open-world sandpark D&D game with a huge world like Vanguard where players could do many faction-related things such as creating and running villages, becoming pirates, engage in faction wars etc.

Just an FYI but there’s also an epic version for level 28.

We need a VR “official” AD&D game.   Where you are definitely your character.   The VR elements will be so novel that the game can be simplified.

devin007 The Tabletop game is also re-releasing a new Elemental Evil story for people to play through. It’s actually really cool that they are timing it like this.

I always list DDO as one of my favorite out of the many many MMOs I have played. I never made it to level cap. I definitely haven’t played the true resurrection game that the really hard core players play. I don’t have any friends that play, so I am usually solo.

But I always have a small itch to come play and I always come back to DDO for a time. At least once a year I come back and play for a few weeks. And I always enjoy my time with a new character or working my ways just a little higher with an existing one. I may roll a new character for TEE or try to push my highest character to do experience in Epic difficulty.

New content in DDO is always a good thing and I am glad it keeps coming.

SeedEve Mansemat melissamcdon “I’m not eager to grind the previous contents to be able to play Temple.”

I forget the details, but every so often they sell Otto’s boxes, they aren’t cheap, but basically level your character. I forget if it’s to a certain level or what, but if you really hate the low level stuff, it’s a way to avoid it.

melissamcdon ” I can’t get around the graphics”

To be fair, the game is about ten years old, (alpha and beta in 2005), so it’s hard to avoid the graphics being dated. Though i do think they have aged pretty well for being closer to realistic than one like World of Warcraft stylistic types which age better.

The fact that mechanics wise, it’s pretty damn unique, is a good reason to give it at least a try.

Been away for a while from DDO, too much to do in preparation for summer, but this will give me the motivation I need. I have some level 7 still around to go in there. I think I have a Monk and a Druid.
