The Daily Grind: Do you have a regular gaming group?

When you’re on a time budget and can’t always be in a game 24/7 to join spontaneous guild runs, it’s a blessing to be part of a committed gaming group that meets at a particular time every week to have a blast together.

I’ve been part of many such regular groups over the years, including one cheeky bunch that get together to do all manner of Lord of the Rings Online silliness. Sure, we love each other, but at the end of the day, we’re not ashamed at telling each other to take a flying leap off a portcullis when a run’s gone south.

Are you part of a regular gaming group? As a bonus, why not use the comments to connect players with groups that could use a new member or two!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I’ve been a part of several which I eventually sort of merged together into one big loose coalition of gaming buddies. People come and go, or take breaks and return years later, but ultimately there’s a core of folks who I talk to on a daily basis and we can go months without actually playing anything together. Sometimes we’re all in the same guild, other times we form allied guilds – especialyl if someone has an existing character in whatever game we happen to find ourselves poking.

I used to be and it fell apart years ago. It was the most fun I’ve had playing video games. We still talk, but we rarely are able to get together given everyone living all over and different schedules.

I really wish there was a site dedicated to helping you find a group of people to play at the same time every week (or night) easily.

It’s difficult to find a group of people that are interested in playing and doing so consistently. Sure there are people in guild that you can hop in and play with and you can try to put a steady group together, but you spend so much time and effort getting people who are A) Interested in playing consistently B) Will show up more than once C) not be a douchebag

Used too but they all got sucked in to Wow and turned into zombies. It wasn’t that they played Wow it was that they ONLY played Wow becoming not a gaming group but a WoW group. Nothing and I mean nothing would draw them way from it. I tried several different games but none could break through the Azeroth haze.

So I left.

I’ve got a regular gaming group for a couple of years now, we are all mature minded and have a good time playing the games we play, which are a vast majority of games out there or are coming out :P, anyway check us out @ http://pandorumgaming.net

Kinda. I have a group of friends that play together. Whenever they play something I have, I join them. Other than that, in my old age (nearly 30 *rolls eyes* ha) most of my gaming friends have given it up… for family or retirement centers or something xD  I am always looking out for good people to play with but they come and go.

I used to. Sometimes I wish I had a group of adults to chat with while playing various games, sometimes it seems like every guild or game I join is filled with screeching teenagers making 4chan references.

I wish I did, but being a parent and working 55-60 hours a week makes it difficult to find a guild that will tolerate sporadic attendance! Would love to find a great guild that played multiple games in a casual fashion.

Nope! I’ve had a few semi-regular people, but not a group. I wish I had one, but I’ll probably have to know them more IRL with more facetime than anything online. Might happen in future schooling or workplaces.

Like a lot of people I just don’t have time to play games for eight hours a day now; I like to be able to log on and play, but then log out at a moment’s notice if I need to go and do something else without upsetting anyone. Would be nice though….

No, unfortunately not. My playing time is early in the morning before work. Nobody is ever online. I have actually considered playing on US servers and join folks from the west coast.
