Cabal II reveals its ‘Abysmo’ unique dungeon system

You can color us surprised at the response to Cabal IIESTSoft’s inbound action MMO, but fortunately North American gamers won’t have to wait much longer for the game to arrive as signups for the late April beta test are already underway.

To ease us into the Korean import, ESTSoft has put together a series of Cabal II deep-dive developer diaries that we’ll be breaking here on Massively OP in the next few weeks. The first one dealt with the specifics of combat; today’s, however, covers the game’s Abysmo unique mini-dungeon system, which ought to look familiar to fans of RIFT. Abysmo cores are scattered around the world and allow players to spawn a series of mobs to attack for fortune and glory; the highest-level Abysmos spawn portals to group dungeons with still more Abysmos inside. Abysmoception, if you will.

Enjoy the dev diary video below!

Cool thanks! I’ll have to add this to my “radar” then. Unless its name is “PSO2”, I neither have the time nor desire to play a dungeon runner.

Damonvile I’m a huge fan of GM ICEE…or any female that knows deep MMO mechanics. It’s very impressive to me.

grimcanuck I was just noticing that, my wife and I were picking things out of the UI that were exactly the same, it was a great way to enjoy 5 mins and a coffee :)

I swear that’s the exact UI from AION (I mean many aspects are like exactly the same.) funny but I have seen other assets from Aion in a smattering of games, perhaps they are from a asset market or maybe NC soft is making some extra cash selling them.

Here is the thing people need to understand about these games: it is all about crafting.

The convention for Western Theme Parks is that you need to grind for gear drops / levels, but in K-grinders that will get you absolutely nowhere.

When the grind in these games kicks in, you need to start focusing on crafting because everything from that point on is built around having good gear. In fact, the whole reason that the XP curve slows down in these games is in order to keep players from out leveling the material drops that you will need to kit up your character.

Waiting around for a good piece of equipment will get you nowhere, you have to go craft it yourself or play the market to trade for what you need.

These games are built to be slow burn titles where it takes TIME to get through the content and 90% of the game is just you tweeking your character; not for everyone, but I for one am looking forward to it.

Koshelkin I pretty much agree. I like the style, but the graphics and the animations really do look 3 to 5 years old. The menus look about the same. Such a shame, well at least it’ll be free… ish. I really want to like this game but it really doesn’t look very interesting.
On a side note; the environment looks so sparse and kinda familiar honestly, but then again, that’s MMORPGs in general not just this one.
