Elite: Dangerous is now available on Steam

I'm in deep space, can't see my face, I've been a minor for a heart of space.

Have you yearned to play Elite: Dangerous but could not due to arcane rituals preventing you from playing any game that is not readily available on Steam? Or do you just like playing all of your games through Steam? Either way, the game is now on Steam, so members of both groups can now jump in and play it!

There are probably more members of the latter group than the former.

The game is retailing for its full price of $59.99 with its Steam launch, so any hopes for instant sales are off the table for the moment. Still, it’s another platform and another way to take off into the deep dark stretches of space and see what’s out there.

What if you already own the game? “As for providing steam keys for people who already own the game,” Executive Producer Michael Brookes told forumgoers, “we’ll look into it and go from there,” though the official Elite Twitter account told another player that Frontier “won’t be providing current players with a Steam Key” and will “be assessing player feedback.”

Kade80 Well that’s certainly good to hear.  Thanks for the heads up on that one.  :)

rioinsignia PhoenixDfire About cargo ejected and being always “marked as stolen”, there is now “abandon”  option too, to donate cargo.

PhoenixDfire  I’m not particularly interested in large corps either.  But wouldn’t mind a small corp with friends.  As for the instancing, like I said, I haven’t got a problem with the concept per se, more the population limit.   But to me, that is lower on my priority list than other things I mentioned

rioinsignia PhoenixDfire Ah well, that’s where we differ. I don’t want the big Corps in the game. That would destroy what I want from Elite. I don’t want Eve in a cockpit . I’d be waiting on Eve valkarie if I wanted that.

The instancing thing is not going to be going away anytime soon. It’s integral to the networking code.

PhoenixDfire rioinsignia Well, ofc I’m speaking from my perspective, no one elses…its not just what is missing, but also the depth in what is currently available.
If the above article is to be believed, there seems to be a distinct lack of corp functionality in the game.  The instancing seems to severely limit the amount of ships that can exist in the instances (I’m not against instances per se). And then there’s apparently a lack of traditional MMO social interaction facilities between players without items being tagged as stolen.  Don’t get me wrong, I can understand why it is happening.
On the longer term, I’ll be glad to see when ED gets some of the “wishes” that the devs say they want to implement.  For example, the ability for the pilot to get out of their ship, walking around in ships / stations / planets / EVA’s etc, etc.  Although they’ve said they want to implement some of these as part of an Expansion, no date has been set for such things. And I’m not sure what the backlash will be (if any) on attaching a price tag to such functionality.
These are just a couple of examples.  I think the article writer has done a good job at highlighting the good, and the bad, points about the game.  Hopefully, it will get better and better over the next months and years.

An interesting article, one that seems quite objective:
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/04/review-elite-dangerous-is-the-best-damn-spaceship-game-ive-ever-played/
This article basically echoes why I’m holding off on buying the game right now.

Mohoc I believe he claimed on here that wasn’t him.  Unfortunately he won’t be able to say himself, he’s been banned from MOP.

I know when Landmark came to Steam they did not offer Steam codes to those that had previously purchased. Unless that’s changed?

When it appears on sale, or gets more depth in content, then I might be interested.
