Phantasy Star Online 2 has a crossover with Tales of Zestiria

One of Phantasy Star Online 2’s big hooks is doing crossovers with other major game franchises. The latest of these mashups is with Bandai Namco’s Tales of Zestiria, which was recently released in Japan and will be coming here in the summer. And no, we don’t know when — if ever — Phantasy Star Online 2 will follow suit.

Thanks to this crossover, PSO2 players will have access to Tales of Zestiria costumes starting today. Zestiria characters such as Sorey, Dezel, Lailah, and Rose will contribute their wardrobes and weapons to the effort.

PSO2 previously included costumes from several Sega games including Valkyria Chronicles, Sonic, 7th dragon 2020-II, and Virtua Fighter 5.

I used to love Sega, but the delay in this game being released in the west has made me hate them.  Especially with these cross overs :(

I took up playing Vindictus because Sega dropped the ball with a PSO2 western release so bad. And while Vindictus IS pretty kickass as far as those types of instance-based, co-op, actioney hack-n-slash MMO’s go; not having access – easy and/or legitimate access, at any rate – to a PSO2 client is painful at this point. Darn you, Sega. DARN YOU! >:(

Also, weird crossover. But neat! I like Tales, but that game engine is super, super old. It was never cutting edge also. Xillia and Vesteria and Zestiria are built like “Super PS2 games” and still suffer from things like horrendous, lengthy fade-ins for NPC’s when you enter new towns. It makes me sad. I think it’s kinda neat to see that kind of art in a better engine like PSO2’s (although Sorey’s gear here looks… not so great on a PSO character).

agemyth  The Japanese version with an English patch isn’t that bad.  Just get PSO2 Tweaker and it takes care of patching the three different types of English patches.

I heard the SEA version was IP blocked here.
I was really tempted to try the fanmade patch but I’d hate to give up all my gear and stuff if PSO does come to the US.

I almost went through the trouble of downloading the South East Asian client of this game because it comes with a (probably shoddy) English language option, but then I saw people on the internets saying that version was bad due to cash shop reasons or something. I then briefly looked into the Japanese version with unofficial English patch, but that was way too much of a hassle.

Anyway, the game probably wouldn’t do well if they brought it over to the US properly, so I guess I can be understanding of that. All the really diehard fans are playing the JP version already anyway.

Did this game ever come to the US?  Ah the days of dreamcast and PSO
