Guild Wars 2 will run a 24-hour public Stronghold beta

You get a stronghold! And you get a stronghold! Everybody here gets a stronghold!

Are you unable to contain your excitement for Heart of Thorns much longer? Do you need a taste of the expansion right now? Because you can have it… soon. A taste, anyway. On April 14th, Guild Wars 2 players will get a taste of the expansion with a public beta for Stronghold PvP. Everyone will be able to log in and queue up for the new PvP mode, no hoop-jumping necessary.

During the event, the Stronghold format will be the only map available for unranked Arena, although other maps will still be there for players invested in working up the ranks. Want to jump in but don’t currently own a copy of the game? It’s going on sale over the weekend for $9.99 for the base edition or $14.99 for the deluxe edition.

I would love to see ArenaNet restructure their older maps for Stronghold mode. It would be a major task, but I think it would bolster SPvP in terms of quality of competition. Most importantly it would prevent disfranchising the SPvP crowd into those like Conquest, Deathmatch, and Stronghold.

Before you go on a hate tirade against a game you clearly dislike to do nothing but promote some other game in a completely off-topic fashion, you just might want to become educated on the materials that you’re ranting against.     This is a sPvP mode that is strictly for the sPvP area of the game.  It has absolutely nothing to do with WvW in any way, shape, or form.
Also, while we’re looking at, it might need mentioning that CU is a niche game focused solely on RvR with little to no PvE. The game’s PvE mobs give no XP and there is no questing.  The only thing outside of RvR it has going for it would be a crafting system (which falls back on RvR in necessity and usefulness).  This is different than GW2, a game that is well rounded by having fleshed out PvE content, sPvP content, and it’s iteration of RvR known as WvW.   It is not just a one-trick-pony.

SoMuchMass Xephyr dirtyklingon It bears similarities, but plays much more like a MOBA than AV. AV is more like a simplistic version of WvW. :)

Xephyr dirtyklingon So basically a simplistic version of Alterac Valley.

Shadanwolf This isn’t world vs world though – this is a new game mode for structured PvP, which uses queuing for matchmaking based on rating to occur. This is not related to WvW at all.

“Everyone will be able to log in and queue up for the new PvP mode”
QUEUE UP ! ?   What kind of a real war has you waiting in a queue ?
Guild Wars 2 WvW isn’t a war…its a tournament to see who can score the most points !
Same for ESO’s AvA
That’s why I’m waiting for Camelot Unchained .

Zophie Winters It’s ok stronghold really doesn’t have much to do with the Xpac.  Uneless your a huge SPvPer and that’s all your looking forward to.  Be excited when they let us all beta test out the revanant and first zone, or the new WvW map.
