Cloud Imperium recently opened a new studio to work on Star Citizen. It’s located in Frankfurt, and it’s called Foundry 42 Germany. Chris Roberts introduces today’s behind-the-scenes video that examines the new studio, which he says is exciting because “the core part of the team in Germany are some of the people who built CryEngine in the first place.”

Most of the small dev team is featured in the video, including senior physics programmer Christopher Raine, who talks a bit about his plans to work on fluids and smoke simulations that “will make the player feel even more immersed in the Star Citizen universe as we’re building it.”

You can see the full clip after the break.

Its very significant to have those hires.

If you are building a game as ambitious as SC on an already built engine, it would be so difficult to do it without architects who know the engine from the ground up in order to pull off all the unique things they want to do with the game.

Yes exactly. He makes it sound like there is a great conspiracy against women in the industry.

Makes me wonder, who´s left over at Crytek?

Craw GoJammit How about women start game studios and run them as they see fit? Why try to force your way where you claim women are not welcome, why not forge your own way? The internet makes it so that even small studios can succeed if they´re talented. Please, start an all female studio and be successful. Of course, it won´t actually change anyone´s mind that the gender imbalance is a “who cares” issue, but surprise surprise, the success of your future studio will bot hinder anyone else´s so everyone can make a go of it if they want!

CIG released a new design document on FPS Stances and Breathing. Sounds a lot like ARMA 3. Good way to go for their FPS…

Craw SoMuchMass LordOfBread I wasn’t aware women were being told they can’t be graphic designers and game programmers.

Craw GoJammit No I see nothing wrong with it if that is the way it falls. Great, women play games now. Get back to me when you have stats on the percentage of women signing up to learn how to program games.

Craw SoMuchMass LordOfBread That is idealism speaking, not reality.  Saying things like “oh look no women in the video” does nothing.  Women shouldn’t be hired to meet a quota they should be hired because they are skilled.  And the reality of the situation is not enough women are studying STEM related fields, at least not until recently.
Things like racism wasn’t solved when people said “Hey this is a problem”.  It happened when people actually did something about it.  Talk means nothing in the real world, action is everything.

SoMuchMass Craw LordOfBread No, true change will only come when both men and women speak for this.  Identifying and accepting there is a problem are the first steps.  Then comes the willingness to make a change (or not).

Craw SoMuchMass LordOfBread True change will only come when there are qualified women that can speak for themselves.  That is the only way the culture will change.  Saying “there is a problem” does nothing.  Plain Utopian stupidity.
