Crowfall expounds on the service of Thralls

11

Have you ever wanted to be a grim reaper? In Crowfall, you can. And for once it is a mutually beneficial proposition! A new FAQ enlightens players on the nature and use of Thralls, which are the souls of fallen warriors and craftsmen trapped in the world and unable to move on. Though they serve players in such roles as vendors, craftsmen, trainers, and guards, these souls aren’t slaves; they are earning their redemption by serving players for a period of time. How many of these temporary minions players can utilize is limited only by the number of soul-capturing gems they have in their inventories.

seventhbeacon Loyheta Mezla Yeah, I’ll probably be dedicating my slot to the forgemaster or whatever he is called. I’m sure I’ll do fine in combat but I really want to excel in crafting.

If they are not slaves then why are they called thralls?
If you’re going to use a word from the real world for something in your game you might want to invest in a dictionary and find out what it means, because you effectively just said “these slaves are not slaves.”

Loyheta Mezla I can add that crafting will be very vital to the game, and that master crafters will have to give up slots that would otherwise go to combat.  It sounds like everyone will have some very basic gathering/crafting capability for probably the lowest tier elements, but if you want certain things you’re going to need crafters to make it happen.  A team of fighters with no crafter will lose because they’ll be fighting ‘naked’.

Can you steal them, kill them, loot them, train them, and have them rebel? I hope so and I hope when they rebel they try to burn your house down.

It’d be cool if players can be thralls.

Once you kick the bucket, you can be a thrall for some time and then move on to the afterlife.

Mezla -No levels.. it’s done by skill training (from character progression FAQ)
-There will be monsters but they don’t have any instanced raids or dungeons (from general FAQ) (hopefully this doesn’t mean no non-instanced bosses)
-There are quite a few different rulesets and they more from pledgegoals. I personally haven’t read up on them but the campaign FAQ goes over them in general.
I mostly just watch the devtracker and read the FAQs. This game is a bit concerning but hopefully they put out some videos on the gameplay.

I feel like they’re never gonna tell us more about the actual gameplay. max level, world bosses?, more rulesets, etc.  Seems like they’re going into painstaking detail about the most painful details of the game.
Plus I don’t really like this farmville approach to professions that Rift, WoW, SWTOR, and Neverwinter seem to be so keen on.  I’m hoping this game looks to the future of MMO instead of putting so much effort into what’s already been done (I’m talking specifically about the Thralls right now.)
