Elder Scrolls Online advertises cash shop item in game

Nothing helps you get immersed in your favorite MMO like a gaudy multilingual cash shop advertisement pasted on your game screen, right? ZeniMax is apparently OK with the tactic, as the company responded to complaints about its intrusive Elder Scrolls Online ad by downplaying the negative feedback.

“We want to make sure everyone is aware that the Senche-Leopard is available – and only for a short time – so nobody misses out on the opportunity,” the company wrote on its official forums. “We only plan on messaging this once per day, and want to hit each language (EN, DE, and FR) as these are multilingual megaservers.”

Morreion Boardwalker A Dad Supreme  Sure, if I’m playing a B2P or F2P game and I see pop-up ads, I won’t be surprised or disappointed.

Luckily they only ‘plan on’ the once a day thing.  Oily politician talk.

I’d like to object, but actually it depends on who you are, how you work. Many things can break many different kinds of immersion.

Zenimax say, it was inteded to get you out of your experience and it should grab your attention. Therefore, they wanted you to ignore the game (for a few seconds) to look at, possibly get absorbed by, an ad. Here you could ask, whether that’s good game design. It’s still not a free-to-play title.

Brunold Boardwalker wjowski No. Not even close. This is more like you get to a good passage and then you flip the page and somebody has stuck an ad for another book in between the pages.

Boardwalker wjowski It’s like… you’re in the middle of, maybe the strongest passage of a novel that’s gripped you for hours. I can’t really come up with something. You need the right place, time and good writing. I don’t have that. I’m trying, but… however, you must have had a novel you read withing mere hours, that caught your attention. For some, it’s Harry Pooter, others like Tolkien or Lovecraft – alternatively, a good horror movie’d work as well. And then…
You get the book hit out of your hand.
Blackout.

Something like this. You get interrupted, the mood’s gone. In a certain sense, you’re back in reality. In some other sense, of course, you always knew. We’re doing this with novels, TV serieses, movies and games. But at this weekend, ZeniMax said: “You won’t do that with our game ever again.” And as far as I know, although I’m very new to the franchise, that’s one essential feature of ES-games. Delving deep into the story and not noticing how hour upon hour passes by.

So, many problems, many concerns and stuff. And it’s irritating, because TESO’s gotten better over the last twelve months.

ManastuUtakata DigitalQ  nownow..I think we should always voice an opinion..and simple suggestions like..umm excuse me could we possibly slide that to the side or drop it to the bottom or even a highlighted top of the screen store logo *which is there when we hit alt* ..what I really meant by my comment is ALLL the drama over the little things..ALL the rage..ALLL the >.< neeeed to go full steam Timmy Tantrum* as soon as there is a hot topic spotlight…it is an overall behavioral trend I almost always speak to at times like this.
