The new Opportunities tutorial system is now available for all newbs, and the patch also introduces cruiser-sized burner missions, new structure assembly effects, a Tech 3 destroyer rebalance, a balance pass on low- and nullsec ores, and more.

dorn2 Denice J Cook Citing WoW has an example of how things should be done is so 2010.

EVE is not a 1v1 game where you having the exact Ilevel or whatever as a vet is mandatory.

Yes you won’t be able to catch up with someone that spent more years on it than you did. And you know what? That’s fair. BUT it doesn’t make you useless, to get the level 1-4 of most skills asks for mere hours, while the level 5, the one the vets have, ask for DAYS. You won’t totally catch up but you can get fast to a point where that vet only has a 5% bonus on you (he will still kick your ass because he has more of those skills though).

Also, EVE is not a 1v1 game where that 5% difference would matter, if you coordinate with fleetmates, (Socializing?? OMG!!) and use the right strategy and the right ships, you can beat more advanced players.

Also, No there is no gear wipes in EVE. And you know what? That’s a good thing.

What you have though is a constantly evolving metagame and a game that reward Mastery, with Alliances making new or changing their doctrines depending on what is happening in the game. See how the Brave Alliance recently made big, old alliances in the game have to entirely change their doctrines and adapt to their zerg tactics.
Go find that that kind of gameplay in WoW, I dare ya!

You can’t catch up because you can’t fly a Titan after 2 weeks. Ok, got it.

Maybe we can actually participate in faction warfare without having to bail every time we see a T3 dessie.

There is something that you are completely overlooking with your “catching up” in Eve Online. This is the simple fact that only a handful of skills are used for each ship. Each ship is in its own class. Each class uses certain weapons/armor, etc. Now, you can max these skills out as a beginning player and be on the same playing field as every other vet minus your wallet size, and game knowledge.

dorn2 Denice J Cook They have not and unless something major happens with their design goals for the game, they never will

What?  Every other game in existence allows you to catch up.  The industry giant WoW repeatedly and ruthlessly nerfs veterans into the ground with effective gear wipes.

EvE is the only game I know of where it is literally impossible to catch up.  Buying another persons character is heinously expensive and invalidates the entire concept of building a character yourself.  I’m not saying a game has to let you catch up of course.  I’m simply asking if EvE has changed their stance on this.  Personally I have no interest in the game if I can not max my skill points through manual play.

To be fair, they don’t really have that for any game though.  Unless you count buying a L90 in EQ2 or WoW, however, you can just as easily buy a pre-leveled Eve character right off their forums with ISK you can buy via PLEX.  :)

Have they added any catch-up mechanics yet? That would be the best improvement for newbs.
