SMITE adds achievement system, omnipotence queue event

It’s a big week for SMITE, as the deity-filled MOBA has added several new features with yesterday’s patch. Arguably the biggest addition is the achievement system, which currently contains over a hundred goals to accomplish.

Also with the patch, SMITE began selling 2015 season tickets (which come with extra in-game goodies), overhauled the in-game store, and added new voice packs, ward skins, and god skins — including the Kawaii Pop skin for Bastet. The game is also preparing a new event for this weekend: an omnipotence queue special event that ties into the achievement system and allows players to win free gems.

Finally, the patch ushered in a fearsome god, Ah Puch, who loves to play with dead things. Ah Puch commands and controls decaying corpses, as you can see in the god reveal video after the break.

Besides, I don’t know why, but this game sprains my left wrist. :(

Over all a good patch. I would like to see the spell effects for Ah Puch toned down a bit as the entire field of vision is filled with purple crap at times.

solipsis agreed, if it’s not a toxic team, it’s also an imbalanced team. It feels as if i’m either put in with a team that gets destroyed or a team that destroys the enemy. I used to be really into the game last year, but only play a match everyone once in awhile, before i remember the reason i stopped playing as much.

I used to enjoy playing this game. Ever since it got popular the community has gotten really toxic. I don’t like wasting 45 minutes working towards winning, asking team mates to stop flaming each other in chat only for one guy to decide to throw the game out of spite when we’re so close to winning. Uninstall.

There’s a lot of interesting stuff with the new patch.
Ah Puch feels overall very balanced for a new god, which is refreshing to see as usually new gods are broken in an underpowered or overpowered fashion.   Dude has pretty much no mobility or defenses, but he’s very good at zoning and dealing good amounts of damage.  Not to mention he has some built-in sustain by consuming his corpses.
The SWC Ticket is neat because it essentially makes you interested in the SPL so you can make better predictions with the ticket, thus getting more fantasy points towards the unlocks (like that Mutalisk-themed Kukulkan that I need in my life).  It’s very much a long-term design though because of how little points you really get… and that’s kind of bothersome that the only two ways to get points is via winning matches (for 15 points) or properly predicting winners in each SPL match.    Hopefully they’ll add more methods to gain fantasy points as time goes on.
Then the “Special Events” replacing the Match of the Day is a fairly interesting idea.   People have complained in the past about free gem weekends because you often were required to get all 6 first wins of the day in the game modes, which meant people had to trudge through modes they didn’t like.  Now, it just focuses on the Match of the Day mode, but that mode is only available during certain times.   Only thing I’m iffy about though is the fact that it’s tied to achievements.   If it keeps chaining into things like “get 5 wins, get 10 wins, get 20 wins”, eventually it’ll hit a stopping point or a point where it gets really ridiculous.   And I’m curious if this will actually mean the end of the monthly gem weekend events that they pull out, and whether or not this will be in a weekly format or what.   Guess time will tell.    But of course there’s an outcry about removing the MotD, though I see that as a good thing.  Lets the MotD focus on the fun modes rather than the frustrating and random crap (like all Sylvanus or other trolly crap like that), and puts more people into the other 5 casual queues.
So overall this seems like it’s a pretty awesome patch with a lot of stuff to dig into and look forward to in subsequent patches.
