Skyforge’s PvP promotes skill over gear

One of the Holy Grails of PvP in MMOs is to emphasize player skill over all else, including gear. It’s a difficult route to take, but Skyforge looks to be attempting just this in order to stand out in the industry.

“Due to the fast-paced action-based combat in Skyforge, PvP basically requires fast reflexes and quick thinking in order to succeed,” one Skyforge PvP guide remarks. “Players will have the opportunity to PvP in ways they cannot in other MMO’s because gear will not be unanimously required in order to perform well.”

The guide lists several other unique features of Skyforge’s PvP, including wide class customization, a myriad of game modes, and the opportunity to progress solely and fully through the PvP game if so desired.

Damonvile “Trying to pretend like your mmo pvp takes real skill, only appeals to people until they lose. “no one” ever seems to want to admit that they may not be the benchmark in skill that they think they are. So that humiliating loss they just suffered is because the other player is either cheating or their class/gear is OP.”

So true, lovely comment btw.

Nreff Radfist BhimaJenkins  They hotfixed the movement breaking it, but never fixed the text.

Smiggins Radfist Hardly. I actually just hate when there is no challenge because I have better gear.
If you had any sense you would realise this type of insurmountable gear mechanic drives away new players from PvP servers and PvP in general.  Meaning there are less people to fight.  This then leads to less development on PvP because no one is playing it, they are all on PvE servers.
It also makes it really boring when you do encounter another player, only to find out that they haven’t done the 200 hour grind to be able to withstand more than one hit from your mighty ‘Sword of No-skill Newb Slaying’.
If you want to go out and one shot things with no opportunity to fight back, why don’t you just spend your days killing harmless critters?  You don’t want to fight other players, you want to frustrate and troll them because you have more time on your hands than they do, clearly making you the ultimate hardcore extreme PvPer (who is scared of a real challenge).

Nreff Radfist BhimaJenkins  http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Camouflage
Camouflage is an http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Effect that, similar to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stealth, makes your character invisible. The effect functions the same as stealth, but is removed by movement. Also, as this is another type of effect than stealth, it does not trigger any http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait or http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skill related to stealth. Unlike other effects, it has no accompanying icon above the skill bar.

Smiggins That is an easy question to answer.

1. Make gear irrelevant for PvP by normalising all stats on them when partaking in PvP combat.
2. Leave gear for PvE only progression and for the raid bosses.

Swordsman Online had an arena based system where you could choose multiple modes
1. Gear does nothing and all classes are normalised
2. Gear does mean something and does what gear does

Have a guess at which mode was the one everybody flocked to, and which one the monthly tournaments were held in. Sadly the game eventually lead itself to having other ways of making skills have special effects which ruined the arena, but at the start it was a true test of skill and the monthly tournaments were amazing.

Nreff Radfist BhimaJenkins  Why does he not miss while anyone else is running at any other time? Seems a bit coincidental that all attacks missed for a very short duration in one instance, yet everyone side strafing the whole time was hit constantly does it not?

Nreff Radfist BhimaJenkins  When they did the hotfix, the invisibility disappears when you move, but the 3 second block doesn’t go away. They had to fix it because knockbacks were inherently breaking it.

Nreff Radfist BhimaJenkins  Due to the knockback.
