Landmark’s big wipe is happening today

13

After riding a roller coaster of delays the last couple of weeks, Landmark fans can finally hop off with this bit of good news: The mega wipe is on for today! Originally scheduled for April 29th, this full-character and claim wipe was bumped to May 5th, and then postponed again until May 11th. But after clearing the necessary testing hurdles, Daybreak has announced that things are back on the second schedule’s track; servers are going down today at 1:00 p.m. EDT today. If you want to say goodbye to all your creations, now is your only chance. The game is expected to remain offline for at least 48 hours and possibly up to 72 hours to implement all the changes, which include new landmasses, new biomes, and changes to the crafting, achievement, and harvesting systems.

I burned out a while back as the material grind was awful and the randomness of the mining pick creation (thousands of picks in the hope of the perfect stats) completely turned me off playing.

That said, I’ve been logging in daily since they added the ‘claim duration’ changes and the ability in this patch to make basic structures without material farming is a very welcome change.

I can now focus on building Barad Dur like I’ve always wanted!

OUT OF MUD.

Well, see, now that this is the “Final” wipe, I can build something, and not worry about it getting vaporized.

This will be on my to-do list for the weekend… gonna check out the new biomes and find a new homestead.
Generally you can find a list of biomes by server name.    I wish they’d restrict it to one-of-each-possible-combination.   There are way too many servers, and most of them ghost towns.

zoward I am not sure what building materials were awarded as codes, but all the props, clothes, and such that were codes will be retained by your account.

I’m hoping all the swag and building mats I won codes for will still be on my account after the wipe.  Anyone know for sure?

I guess this is good news…. time will tell.

For me I have lost all interest in anything EQ related since the changes. I have lost all confidence in this company, but I will watch from the sidelines, wait patiently and see if anything actually happens.

Is this a full wipe of everything ( all mats etc ) or like they’ve done before where you kept resources and tools ?

wolfyseyes This is certainly one of the steps I personally have been waiting too.  The make or break for this game for me though will very much depend on what they do with the quest authoring / AI tools when ever they decide to put that part of the game out, if ever.

This is the update that I’ve been waiting for.  Maybe now some sense of permanence will keep me invested in this game.
