Elite’s Mac client launches May 12, Powerplay beta on May 20

This week’s Elite: Dangerous newsletter covers quite a bit of ground. Firstly, the game’s Mac client will launch on May 12th. Mac and PC players can play together seamlessly, and both groups will share the same galaxy and GalNet feed, Frontier says.

The newsletter also says that the Powerplay update’s beta test version will release on May 20th, and it shows off a sneak peek at Powerplay’s galaxy map which in turn shows each power’s control over human space. Finally, this week’s update mentions a couple of meatspace E:D meetups in both the US and the UK, as well as a reminder about executive producer Michael Brookes‘ recent forum post concerning cheaters.

I see that Steam keys will be available for people that already bought the game from their store – https://twitter.com/EliteDangerous/status/596755674899570689

Got my Anaconda this week due to a community goal giving a 16% discount on Faulcon DeLacy ships, what an amazing ship it is to fly,

I don’t get it either. It didn’t sound to overblown but I guess there’s not much else they can really say about the Mac release because it’s no different to the PC one.

Is this game as cool as it looks? or is it more like EVE online?

I like the idea of “shadow banning” people who cheat, essentially putting them on a separate server that is only populated by people who cheat and has no  effect on the rest of the players or their games. Its an elegant solution rather than instantly using the blunt instrument of the perma ban hammer.  Though as stated that will still bem used for severe offences.

I’ll be avoiding this until power play kicks in. Then I’ll give it another shot. The community goals weren’t enough to get me to even log in, but this could be a little more interesting. Hoping the Mac players inject a little more into the player base. Last thing I want is for this game to die off before Star citizen launches. Competition keeps people on their toes.
