Make My MMO: May 9, 2015

Make My MMO

This week in MMO crowdfunding news, we learned everything we ever wanted to know about Star Citizen’s first person shooter module, plus a bit more. In addition to some deep dives into character and art design, we got a good look at SATA Ball, which is simultaneously an in-fiction sport and an attempt at FPS mechanics that haven’t really been done before, according to Cloud Imperium.

You can catch up on the rest of this week’s crowdfunding news after the cut.

You’re repeating a lot of what you’ve said before. I’ve read that. Now I asked you about the community stuff specifically.
But regarding the other things you say – I disagree with almost everything. Plus, it’s not the first time I recognize your criticism and negativity towards the project. You’re not starting to “become increasingly unhappy”, you’ve been that a long time. I’m pretty tired of hearing your whining so I welcome the day you’re leaving. Make sure you shut the door on your way out.

How can community work and doing gaming conventions be a negative thing? You’re turning this upside down and seem to think it’s all about sleezy marketing, when it’s really first and foremost about keeping in contact with the backers. Of course they also want other people, who haven’t yet heard about Star Citizen, to be backers, and that’s a good thing IMO – even if it’s not their first priority. Bringing the news out there will bring more people to the game, which will fill up the game universe with real players, instead of all those NPCs.

Well I’m not going to forget it. You are one of the few people I can get to discuss things objectively, though you’re a bit off base in assuming I’m completely in love with the game. More like infatuated with that big titted karaoke singer that always invited me to come listen to her sing. I’m hoping this ends up better. Turns out Gina had zero interest in me and it was flatter married friend who had the hots for me.
As for the stick issue, this would be a place where we agree. The mouse nose leading from Freelancer needs to go. They no how to make a mouse behave like a virtual joystick. He did it in his old games. It’s been done for decades. The whole turret control issue is the problem. I stopped bothering with the forum over that and the missile issue. People more concerned about winning and realism and not enough interested in gameplay. Yes you can fire off all your missiles at once, but how does that make for a good game. I will say though, in all the videos I see, they are using the stick.
I don’t know anything about the physics engine. If they want to say it does this or that, I don’t really care as long as I get a good game out of it. That what I mean when I say you are following too close. People going through the game code to prove or disprove everything being said is silly to me and ultimately a waste to time and energy. Gimme some gameplay and development videos, update me on progress, I’m good. It never should have gone further than that.

You’ll have to explain the opposite part to me. How is that?

Well jus have to agree to disagree on that. I’m really excited about the fps part and I think it’s very important to the game. I also look forward to the videos, easily avoidable and hardly qualifying as spam, every week. But if it’s not for you, it’s not for you.

I would say maybe you follow the game too closely. What did you sign up for that you are not going to be getting. Seems to me like we are getting more than we signed up for and u don’t see that as a bad thing.
Ah well see you at launch I hope.

Something in this last update that irked you?

In other news, Trials of Ascension has upcoming news. On their forums they are NOT going the Kickstarter route but something is in the works.

Greed Monger changes hands and will start out going the Life is Feudal type route, with servers that can be run by players while they work on the MMOG side of the game.
