Mortal Online is getting a new continent this Sunday. It’s called Sarducca, and it’s home to a bunch of soldier fanatics who are loyal to the Padishah Emperor. Actually, scratch all that except the Sarducca part.

With the new continent, the fantasy PvP sandbox is “growing to more than double” its previous size, according to developer and Star Vault CEO Henrik Nystrom. “The geography of the continent is finished, and as you can read in the patch notes there have been tons of polish and new content put into the game,” he writes. There are “a few” locations and mobs planned for Sarducca that won’t make the initial patch, but Nystrom says they’ll make it into the live build via a series of follow-up patches.

MO is a great far sandbox. The nights are so dark you can get lost, you can easily drown if you’re weighted down and slip into water, and you never know when someone is going to come along and chop off your head.
I played for a few months about 2 years ago and had an amazing time exploring and farming monsters for resources and mining and crafting. If you like this kind of play you should give MO a try right away. Just find a clan to join right away, and you will have a great time. In my opinion, MO is the closest thing to Eve on the ground that there is at the moment.
The game has its bugs, and some of them can be enraging, but I found the overall experience to be worth it.

I first learned of Mortal Online several months before its closed beta. There was a bit of controversy at the time, because Americans had to pay a price for it that was cost-adjusted up to equal the EU price (which has VAT added). I happily shelled out the cash and eagerly awaited beta.

Months later, I jumped in, and it was… rough. I think the worst part of it was the UI. It always felt like there was a great game in there somewhere, but it would take some digging to find it. So, I unsubbed after retail release, intending to give it a few months to mature a bit.

Fast forward to when it was made F2P. I still hadn’t tried it again, so I reinstalled it to see how far they’d come. And truth be told, they HAD come a long way. I could definitely see a glimmer of that great game I had sensed before. But it was just that – a glimmer. At that point, I didn’t have the in-game social network necessary to really get ahold of the mechanics. So I quit again, and haven’t played since.

My initial gut reaction to the new continent is: the game world already felt empty (beyond the starter zone, which is PACKED), and they’re doubling the world’s size?

I wish them all the best, but I’m still skeptical.

I played it a few years ago when it first came out and it really was quite the train wreck.  Interesting, but a train wreck.  I like some their ideas though so I’ll have to check it out again and see how much has improved over time.

I’m totally stoked for the expansion.  Have 16 months subbed and can’t play anything else.  #MO4LYFE

It’s definitely an “interesting” game.  A lot of great ideas, but the implementation was somewhat rough when I played for a month or so a couple of years ago. I’m not sure how it is now. But you probably want to find a guild/clan as soon as possible or you’re going to have a very hard time. I believe it’s worth checking out, since you can do so for free, if you are looking for a full loot ffa pvp game.
