Test fly Star Citizen’s Aurora and Mustang for free this week

Star Citizen

If you’re like me, you bought into Star Citizen way back in 2012 and you haven’t dropped a dime since. Don’t get me wrong because I’m still looking forward to Cloud Imperium’s space sandbox opus like no other game, but I don’t see the point of spending real money on pretend spaceships that I’ll be earning in the finished title anyway.

Fortunately for people like us, CIG periodically makes portions of its ever-growing fleet free-to-fly in the playable Arena Commander module. This week, all of the ships in the Aurora and Mustang lines are open for test flying without having to purchase them, and all of the poking and prodding has the dual benefit of providing CIG with “valuable testing metrics.”

Vikingr GoJammit Darkwalker75 I think they tried that on the Jumpgate forum. They would just through in enough words to defeat the length, usually with something like. “Obligatory 10 characters”

Short posts could be automatically blocked by adjusting the minimum word/letter count that most boards features. If the board administrator sets word count to minimum 10 words then we’d avoid it almost completely.

BTW, the main reason I don’t use Twitter is because a limit of max. 160 characters is too limiting. I don’t want to  be forced to make a reasonable argument within those limits. So Twitter is better for non-discussion messages like “Try our newest ice cream Coolkrokan now!” from companies, or perhaps “My new book “Haunting on the Internet is out.” from authors. But totally useless to discuss either the ice cream or the contents in the book.

Vikingr GoJammit Darkwalker75 But remember the point is to keep the clutter don. Just as there are those people saying “This” to “^^^^^” and whatnot, you have people doing the opposite. The vote gives them the outlet. Besides, it could be argued that down votes are no less hostile than some of the stuff spewed be a Manzes or this new clown Fox loves Dragons or whatever his name is.

The problem with downvoting is that it creates a hostile forum board. Upvoting has the opposite effect. Of course, upvoting can also be abused but with no consequences for the poster. I guess it depends on if the tally all upvotes and display it in the user’s Dossier or not. If they don’t tally it up so others can see then upvotes won’t have the effect of raising some poster to be more “liked” than others.

“I do t want a system that makes die voted things disappear or get greyed
out like Massively used to do (where is our vote system, by the way).”

I agree. But there is the “LIKE” button/link here now. Do you want more than that?

I wholeheartedly agree with the backer-only posting ability. I don’t think it’ll solve much but at least it’d be traceable back to an account.

Darkwalker75 GoJammit What would it matter? Remember the point is to give people the ability to up or down vote instead of making more forum clutter with actual posts. So someone gets his dopey friends to go downvote something while other more invested actually discuss it. And even then if there are less accts to make comments or votes, we still win. Nah. Unless you put up dough, you really have no good reason to comment on anything on the forum. That much less to moderate. I’ll feel the same when the game launches and I would say maybe it should be like that on all games.

I think the way it s now, non-backers can only post in certain parts of the forums, such as general chat.

As for your proposed solution, its unfortunately only a partial solution.
While people cant create multiple accounts to abuse the system, there is still nothing stopping groups of players from doing so by working together.

What would stop a person from calling on 10 friends or org mates to down vote a post by a user the person dislikes or because he/she don’t agree with what is posted?
Or to upvote their own post to make it look like its something constructive when its not?

I don’t know if you can really have one without the other. And I think it would be okay. Remember the purpose is for people to be able to quickly give their feeling about it without cluttering things up with more chatter. For some that doe vote will be enough. I do t want a system that makes die voted things disappear or get greyed out like Massively used to do (where is our vote system, by the way). So abusing it wouldn’t really matter much.
But since abusing it was mentioned, there’s an easy fix for that the only voices on the forum should be the tied to a backer acct. one backer should get one forum acct. done. finito. There is no value in having non backers be an active part of the community. Let them read all they want, but their voice is not needed on their. There are faqs to answer questions and a search feature to look for stuff.

I’m against a system that let you downvote a post or poster. That will only make the climate hostile, and, as you say, open for abuse. But I’m for implementing upvotes, as it is in the forums here on MOP.
