Captain Nog joins the Star Trek Online cast

He had the lobes for it.
In the first episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Commander Sisko tells Jake not to hang around with that Ferengi boy Nog. He’s worried the boy will be a bad influence on his son, you see. Here we are in that same timeline many years later, and Captain Nog is joining the fight against the Iconians in Star Trek Online after a long and distinguished career in Starfleet.

That isn’t relevant to his appearance in the game, of course. It’s just funny.

Actor Aron Eisenberg is the latest Star Trek actor to join the cast of the game, returning to the role of the first Ferengi to join Starfleet. No word yet on what Nog’s exact role will be within the game, but as captain of the USS Chimera it’s safe to say that his impact will be felt.

Nog! They certainly know how to push my nerd buttons. Not enough to get me playing (I don’t like where STO is going), but I still appreciate his presence.
The thing about Star Trek is that there was always a strong sense of fantasy racism. Sure, humans were treated equally, but aliens tended to be more one dimensional. Very little was offered to anyone but the klingons. Nog was a bit of a turning point in that regard, and one that I was happy to see.
I feel DS:9 did much to fix that, and even Voyager in its later seasons (if not in its earlier ones).
I’ll stop talking about Star Trek, now.

blast tyrant IIRC, Robert Beltran has bitter feelings towards Star Trek in general.  Apparently his time with voyager got ugly near the end.  I doubt he would do any voice work for STO, at least for the forseeable future.

Greaterdivinity Nog’s got nothing on that degenerate Wesley Crusher.

That bundle of happy go lucky save the day superchild single handedly ruined the first three seasons of TNG.

I agree. Alt-Trek is fine for what it is (see my other post here), but it never really felt like Star Trek to me.
Star Trek Online has some really good storytelling in it (in my opinion), and it plays more like a TV series, with immediate adventures in front of the player, and a larger ongoing plotline moving behind everything.
And given the limitations of STO’s design, I’m always surprised by how much character stuff they can get out of their storylines as well.
Beyond this, being able to recruit and customize my own bridge crew companion NPCs? It feels like I’m the star of my own Star Trek series — which is probably the point. :-)
Cheers,

blast tyrant DJjazzy Fun fact! Jackie Gleason merely threatened to abuse his long suffering tv wife, while Jack Gleason’s character killed and abused women.

One could only imagine a honeymooner’s made by HBO. No doubt Alice would have multiple lacerations to her face and Neil Armstrong would have tripped over her body parts.

Agreed. I think it’s time.
The alt-universe movies are fine for what they are (summer blockbuster blowin’-stuff-up popcorn movies) but the 90 minute-to-two-hour format doesn’t allow for the kind of story and character development Star Trek, at its best, could deliver.
Plus, the wait between the films is measured in years, which is too long.
So, yeah, time for a new series of some sort, I think.

I remember reading that actor Aron Eisenberg was a huge World Of WarCraft player.

In an interview with him on the WoW website (I believe) he was asked if he’d been tapped to do voice work for the then-new Star Trek Online. He expressed regret that he hadn’t, but remained hopeful.

I guess somebody heard you, Aron!

Nog was awesome, one of the best actors on DS9 I thought.
