Here’s a new(ish) trailer for The Repopulation

A couple of days ago, The Repopulation announced that it was launching in Q4 2015. The dev team also put a new trailer on YouTube, though it escaped my notice at the time. No matter, though, because it’s just as interesting on May 22nd as it was on May 20th, as you’ll see if you click past the cut.

The clip runs for about a minute and a half, and if you’ve got really sharp eyes, you might even catch a brief glimpse of Massively-that-was!

Source: YouTube; thanks Kinya and toomanywowclones!

pid Gridley171 I just want to point out, things like polish depend greatly on the budget the project has. SWTOR was over 100 million as I recall? I don’t think Repopulation has even hit 5 million. Perspective on this would go a long way.

Gridley171 pid Mind you it’s not at all “bad”, but I expected that the quality/polish of SWTOR was because of the Hero Engine and that it was a kind of guarantee. Instead, the quality between those two titles for terrain, animations and so on is abysmal and they can’t really be compared. Gameplay-wise (which was my selling point) they are completely different. If The Repopulation would have taken over the *GRAPHICAL* quality level of SWTOR it would have been the undisputed successor to SWG.

pid thanks for the info, I’ve been loosely curious about this game for a while now and your write-up was exactly what I was looking for in terms of current state-of-the-game opinions.  I am, however, hoping for the best ^^

It has those SWG strong points but sadly there are many flaws. It would be good if it was more polished but by now that’s pretty impossible. the terrain should be redone completely to match that of SWTOR (both use hero engine, that’s why I take this comparison). At that point most textures, models and animations should be redone, so graphically it’s really far behind AAA titles of 2015. But that’s understandable, they did not have 3 studios with 150 devs working on art and content, IIRC at times there were less than 3 devs working on it hard, but there’s only so much one man can do.
the UI has been improved greatly and it’s polished in respect to what it was in early access on steam, but it’s not enough. on occasion it’s still confusing (20 hours spent on this title) because the mechanics are. on some sides they are simplified and that’s ok. on some others they are overly detailed giving an unequal experience. I mean item quality uses letters A-F and each has 10 grades 0-9… stacking is awful and crafting is impacted by this overly complex choice. I’ve tried hard to make them reason but to no avail. a simpler crafting and harvesting model would have been less cumbersome but still complex enough to enjoy fully.
combat is obviously DIKU-MUD (lock target on a mob and fire skills). no twitch involved even if first person suggests otherwise.
don’t misunderstand me, i like it and will play it, but it has some major flaws and denying that is simply unrealistic. as a huge SWG fan i hoped it to become what it is, but as a 2015 spoiled gamer i also wanted it to be far more polished and streamlined without impacting on gameplay.

End of the year? Cool, I might check it out then.
I’m not that interested in playing an earlier version of a game, I’m fine with waiting at this point. I’m going to wish the guys behind The Repop a best of luck and godspeed.
