ArcheAge’s ‘altogether different’ approach to server merges

Trion hasn’t formally announced server merges for ArcheAge yet, but the publisher is at least thinking about it, judging by a forum post made by community manager Evan “Scapes” Berman last Friday. Developer XLGAMES is working to automate the server transfer process, which is currently available in the game’s native Korea, and Trion says that when it becomes available in the west (“later this year”), it will also work for broad scale transfers.

So, is an ArcheAge server merge in the cards? Well, yes and no, according to Scapes: “We do not currently have plans to merge servers in the traditional sense. Instead, we plan something altogether different and look forward to revealing the plan as soon as we work out the details.”

ArcheAge players have long speculated that server merges will be hugely problematic due to the game’s limited land plots and the fact that they’re highly desired and even necessary for many gameplay activities.
