Square wants to know if you’d crowdfund a 2-D indie MMO

Would you crowdfund an “action-based” MMORPG for the PC, Mac, and mobile platforms called Dragon of Legends? Developer Square Enix wants to know, and as such it has set up an informal poll where you can make your voice heard. If you read the fine print, you’ll find that Square isn’t actually developing the game itself but is instead looking to “help independent developers” as part of its Indie Collective program.

The title is “heavily influenced by the mythic cycle of Gaelic Ireland and Norse mythology, where the lights of faeries border the realms of darkness.” The firm also mentions a 2-D “retro-inspired world,” customizable characters, a diverse class system, and an immersive narrative.

By principal, no. I wont help crowdfund anything that’s owned by a billion dollar company. They can afford to make it without my money. I’ll pay you when its done. Maybe.

Why is Square Enix asking? Don’t they have enough of a bankroll to not have to crowd fund?

Werewolf Finds Dragon Once again you make a decent point re: fantasy genre sameness and then ruin it by implying that people who happen to like a game style you don’t are fulfilling “racist/supremacist’ needs.  Yeah man, you are just a better kind of person than people who have the audacity to play ‘generic games’.  Keep fighting the good fight against people who don’t have fun like you prefer, eventually I’m certain the world will acknowledge your obvious intellectual superiority.

After voting, I started throwing money at my monitor. Nothing happened yet, but I’ll keep everyone updated.

I would rather crowdfund an updated Final Fantasy XI, but the concept sounds fresh.

To be honest, I’d love to see more games like this, because I love MMOs and uhh, I work 60 hours a week with constant access to my phone so, I support high quality mobile MMOs rising up so I can play them at work. :p
I’ll give this game a try but probably wouldn’t crowd fund them.
