Betawatch: May 29th, 2015

And still no Neil Young rewrite.

We don’t usually list expansions in our little master list, but Guild Wars 2 has started doing some testing of its first expansion. In very, very small doses. Another dose of the Stronghold beta is also due for the game in the not-too-distant future, hopefully ameliorating the current lack of information about when the expansion will actually launch.

Other beta news? Oh, fine, I guess we can.

And of course we have that lovely list of games in testing past the break. Did something slip into open testing or soft launch without us finding out? Let us know down in the comments.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed.

That’s been the plan from the beginning. The only thing that has changed has been the timetable. We were supposed to have the FPS and the social module by summer. And while there is officially still some time before that hits, I could see in the last Around the Verse that it still needed some work. I don’t know how much but this should probably be fixed before putting it in our hands. Sorry I can’t link directly to the part in the video I am on my mobile. They have a new glitch section and 2 and 1 are for the fps. They are about at 26:30.

GoJammit That sounds a little like development hell to me

Could it be that the only thing anyone one has gotten their hands on is the in game simulator that is meant to be a type of rinse repeat testing ground for pilots to hone their skills before actually taking their real ship into the persistent universe? Maybe if the game wasn’t still in development your question would make sense. As it is, they are using this small portion of the game to nail down flight mechanics, weapon damage and equipment swapping. Soon the FPS portion will be out for them to test that along with the multi few aspect of the ships. Once these things are done then the PU or mmo part of the game comes to life. No one can really judge it because no one has really seen it yet.
Was that helpful?

Didn’t know Ever Jane was still going I hadn’t heard anything about it for a year or more so I thought it was just vapor ware .

Out of interest whats H1Z1 like now ? Steam seem to have a lot of negative reviews up about it . I like the Zombie genre generally speaking but with a game like this I think I want to play pvp only if there are faction based servers otherwise it becomes a frag fest with little or no community .

Star Citizen seemed interesting but I am starting to get the feeling it may collapse under the weight of its own ambitions . I’ve read comments in these forums that there is very little actual game for the money raised and that its more a giant cash shop . Could this game because of its scope go the same way as Greed monger or remain in development hell for years to come ?

Robert80 ClassicCrime Thank you :) and yikes, i hadn’t heard about the melee issues, when I found out there was no movement during combat I just went straight to ranged lol. And that’s good to know about the guilds too, looks like there are deeper rooted problems than I realized.

dirtyklingon I suppose short of there being a link to an open folder where they save all of their sketches and doodles, they were never going to live up to that.

ClassicCrime  I agree that the video is well done for the most part.  I strongly agree on where the game is strong, although I found a little more for things to dislike.
Of note, the only areas you seem to have missed a critical point:  Melee suffers from a loss of their chosen attack on attack to move actions, and sometimes just walks up, tries to hit, and gets a range error… and the guilds not mentioning the highly limited guild size due to that guild flag system (which larger groups of players may find an issue until or even after their guild levels up.)
Still, I agree with dirtyklingon that the video is well done overall.

Not sure if it’s in beta, but Wander is launching on June 4th.
