MechWarrior Online brings MechLab online with today’s patch

18

MechWarrior Online has had a rocky go of it lately, apparently breaking ties with former (and now defunct) publisher Infinite Games. But you can’t keep a 16-ton battle chassis down, especially when it roars back up with a major patch.

Today MWO released Phase II of its Community Warfare initiative, the team’s effort to introduce territory control and conflict to the game. In addition to that, players can enjoy the new MechLab, which streamlines the process of saving and swapping out builds for these death-dealing machines.

Phase II of Community Warfare has helped to expand MechWarrior Online’s offerings. It has added four new maps, voice-over IP, a looking-for-group tool, global faction text, and the ability to quickly transport to hot spots across the galaxy.

Rebel Engie I think they meant 60.   This is one of the things I find hysterical about game reporters, well, reporters in general, is when they report on something they know nothing about and get basic facts wrong in an attempt to publish quickly and move on.

DamnDirtyApe Damonvile He’s right. It will probably, for the most part, always be a lobby based deathmatch. Frankly some of us are cool with that. To each his own I guess.
But the mech packs are pretty much optional. You just have to wait longer to get the new mechs for C-bills. But the wait is compounded by the fact that they alternate between Clans and IS packs. I wish they would do “mini packs” and release 1 of each faction simultaneously. Because the wait for new IS mechs is annoying.

Xijit You can purchase a lot of mechs for in-game currency. Using trial mechs to grind out the currency. But they lack the skill bonus of regular mechs, so they’re decidedly weaker until you get your own mechs and skill them out. But you can buy the max size mech pack on the IS side for $80 or $120 for Clan mechs. You get 4 types of mech, 3 variants of each, one of which has a C-bill bonus, the mechbays for all of them, and a bit of premium time. Other goodies if you pre-order early enough. I think you also get some paints and faction camo. Or you can pick which of them you want A La Carte. $35 for the IS and $55 for the Clan mechs.

All of the mechs they sell in the packs eventually become available in the store for C-bills. So really you either grind C-bills or pay real money.

They did do a $500 gold Clan mech promotion. They were just gold. I’ve never personally seen one in game. ;p

TheDove Armsbend _Ariel_ Nah, you’re thinking of the “Evony” banner ads that were totally ubiquitous a few years back.

Damonvile PGI certainly liked pinning their problems on the publisher but things haven’t really changed with the publisher out of the picture.

All this game will ever be is a lobby based deathmatch game which tries to bleed money out of old Battletech fans with ridiculously priced mech packs.

Aye, but its possible to earn the mechs in game even with just the trial mechs. I managed to get the freebie thunderbolt and used it to get more stuff.
